This the by far best lawn mower that I've ever had in the thirty-five years I've been cutting my grass. Three years ago I decide to spend the extra $100.00 to get a better mower. It starts every time. I am perfectly satisfied with the bagging system although it did take a little time to get adjusted...

Most Helpful Critical Review

New mower went 10 feet down the yard and a rear drive wheel fell off the mower. Outer wheel bearing was completely missing so wheel was not held captive in place. When the wheel fell off it was destroyed by the drive gear. Sears parts where not open on Sunday so chance to fix right away. On the positive...

Craftsman Platinum 175cc 21&#34 Briggs &... Reviews

This lawn mower is easy and convenient to use. It always starts when we turn the key, which saves your shoulder and back from pulling. The mulching bag is nice, but small as I have a large 1.3 acre yard and chose not to buy a rising mower for the exercise. But with a yard over 100 yards long, it quickly fills the bag. My only complaint is that I had to take it back to service because two of the mounting bolts came out. This was repaired in about 10 - 14 days.

I was a little wary about buying this mower at first since I wasn't able to view it in person first.  I bought this mower strictly off what I read online and all the reviews that it had.  I have roughly 4 acres of land and 2 acres of it being grass.  I bought this to mow the front and sides of my lawn , as I have a commercial mower for the backyard.  I couldn't believe how easy it started right up when I turned the key.  I went on vacation for 2 weeks and came back to about 10-12in high grass.  I could not believe the power this mower had, it cut right through the tall, thick grass without...

Before purchasing this mower on-line (not available in stores), I was a bit concerned about the bag issue that some reviewers mentioned on here.  I am happy to report that the bag installs easily and I do not have an issue with grass clippings blowing by.  I was very impressed that as soon as I took the mower out of the box and put some gas in it, just turned the electric started on and it fired right up.  Literally first turn of the motor with no choke or priming straight out of the box. The motor runs very smoothly and it's quiet. The main source of noise is the spinning blade, but the engine...

My Best Mower in 10 Yrs

7.75 HP Craftsman Rear Propelled Rear Bag Lawn Mower with Key Start:  So far so good.  I mulch my lawn (bagging accessories are still in the plastic), rarely bagging unless I need it for my garden.  Great power, quiet, good self-propelled speed and I love the encased bearing/rubber wheels.  I mow 1/3 an acre every week and I barely built-up a sweat with this mower, it did all the work.  I can not wait until I get to use it next weekend.

Suggestion for consumers: use high octane gasoline with stabilizer and synthetic oil after break-in.

Sears R&D has done a great job developing this mower...

FANTASTIC MOWER

This is a great mower cranks on first pull or turn of the key with no priming.  Since I didn't have the room to store a rider or zero turn around like I wanted I was lucky enough to run across this mower new in the box at a closeout center for $250 what a steal.  This mower is very powerful the blade cuts and leaves very little clumping even when grass is slightly wet and the suction on it is amazing. When I got the mower I at first thought the bag wasn't fitting properly but then I figured out how it attaches to the mower.  Once you understand how it goes on it is easy on and easy off and...

Great Mower!

I love this mower! I am a long time Craftsman supporter and this new mower is another in long line of great Craftsman mowers I have owned. This is my first time with a key start, and although I was reluctant, I will never go back. Even the drive control is improved and I was very happy with it from previous models. More power, easy start and a great cut...what more could I ask for. I do love this mower!

This mower lacks the power to cut mow thru weeklong grass. If the grass is wet with morning dew expect the engine to stall. The "mulching" system doesn't mulch the grass, it just drops it on the lawn in clumps. My mower is only one season old but I have never noticed the vac feature to work any better than my old mower. I wish I had purchased a more powerful mower with an actual mulching blade/system. The collection bag DOES catch a lot of grass but is awkward to attach, remove, and dump. My advice? Go with a more powerful and better mulcher mower if you have a big yard. Try a tractor mower.

Good Mower but returning

Pros: The power of the Brigs/Stratton 7.75 cannot be equaled for the price, it cut through my tall, wet grass with ease. The power of the rear wheel drive was good, it kept me walking at a nice pace (not too fast or slow) and had no trouble at all traversing my lawn of hills/valleys. The vacuum system was great, not one blade of grass left behind, sucked everything in site, my yard appeared to look like a Professional stadium once complete (minus ruts by the tires, notes in the Cons) Cons: I could not get the rear wheel drive off the majority of the time (w/o turning the engine off and pushing... read full review »

This mower has an excellent "feel", and as a result improves the overall mowing experience.  Compared to my older Craftsman (similar engine front drive rear bagger - I've had many Craftsman self-propelled mowers), this one feels like a Lexus (as compared to, say, a basic pickup truck).  I believe this is due to a combination of factors - the soft grip angled handle, softer & larger rubbery tires, rear drive (my front yard is slightly sloped and I had to push the front drive along somewhat), smooth engine, balanced weight distribution, rear drive, and improved silencer / better sound. ...

I had a front wheel drive and some small hills in my yard, got a workout each time I mowed.  Bought this one and now mowing is a breeze.  Electric start is great, rear wheel climbs right up the hills, very smooth, easy to maneuver.  Great buy!  The single lever for adjusting front and rear height is a must too.  Contoured handle, and two levers for self propel is very nice too!  I researched this and the Toro per Consumer Reports, coworker bought the Toro, but I think I got the better deal.  Would have been nice if got a Craftsmen Club discount, but $100 off price is a deal!

awesome...!!

I have read all of the other reviews with great interest and having just bought this mower at Sears for a closeout price of $349 I am incredibly impressed. I have a very hilly rough property with a lot of seriously overgrown grass/weeds/brambles etc. It started on the key without a charge and proceeded to kick *** all over the yard at any speed or cut height. Its very easy to operate with either hand and the speed control seems great. Just for a laugh I decided (rashly) to go straight through a 2-3 ft overgrown area which I did not even attempt with a weed wacker. It went straight through without...

Hated the bag.

I was looking to replace my 10-year-old Snapper mower, which has served me well, save for recent difficulty starting. I picked this Craftsman mower, based on the reviews, and bought it two days ago. It was easy to set up, and started like a dream. However, the rear bagging system is poor, in that the mower quits suction once the bag is half full. Moreover, when you attempt to remove the bag, grass inevitably falls out. Also, no padding on the handlebar hurts after a half hour or so. Further, I had difficulty disengaging the rear wheels, and the front wheels are positioned so far ahead of the blade,... read full review »

Barely got it dirty

This unit has one serious design flaw which I'm not sure whether it's a craftsman problem or a Briggs problem. As I was making my first pass around my front yard, mowing next to my neighbors fence, a rose bush stem brushed up against the engine and I instantly lost rpms. Turns out it hung in the governor spring and stretched it out straight on the first few coils, which took the tension off of the governor. There is no reason not to have a simple plastic guard over that part of the engine. I could easily fix it and could probably fashion a makeshift guard to go over it but I despise modifying... read full review »
