One word of caution on any product manufactured by ORION International. Product codes beginning with 152.xxxxxxx. This company redesigned their product within a 5 year window and then stops making parts. Leaving you with a virtual BOAT anchor. I purchased one 6 years ago and now can not get the parts I need to fix my machine. The Trunnion setup is made of a very cheap pot metal and will brake under stress. Sears says to bad parts aren't available and ORION International will not respond to my emails. Sears better look at who they are doing business with as people like myself make future investments in tooling....

While purchasing several tools to set up shop at the beginning of this year, made a last minute decision to purchase the Craftsman 6 1/8 inch Professional Jointer over the 6 inch Jet. I was able to catch it on sale, $150 off, which simply made it too tempting to not at least give it a try. I'm very happy that I did. It was easy to put together. It definitely takes two people to lift, but was able to assemble on my own using a hydraulic engine lift. The jointer is easy to operate and I've had no issues getting square and straight boards. I was able to use the extra money I saved towards a band saw which was a double win for me. A good sale tempted and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. So far, this has been a solid, reliable tool.
...

I bought my Jointer online about 9 months ago. The day i got it took myself about 2.5 hours to put it together, the hardest part was mounting the motor. Just fallow the instructions and its really not that bad to do. Since that time I've used it on a regular bases, im talking about 2-3 times a week for the past 9 months never once has it giving me a problem although once you take the blades out the sharpen them its does take some time to get the blade back right. This tool if use correctly will do a pretty good job. First of all dont use this to plan all four sides, you'll never get a perfectly square piece of wood, get one side flat, and then get an actual planner and do the top side. then go back to do the sides. If you do that, you'll have yourself an almost perfect square piece of wood. Now Snipes this is an area that i found to be mitch match depending on the type of wood i was using and how sharpe my blades were. Freshly sharpened blames with softwoods would almost never snipe the...
...

I've had this jointer for well over a year now and can't get a striaght edge out of this machine. The outfeed table has a lot of play in it and sags so the tables aren't coplanar. I found out that you can prop a board under the end outfeed table to the floor, so it forces the end of the table up. It helps, but it doesn't fix it. I've tried many many times to plane two board to glue them up long grain and there are ALWAYS gaps at the edges. I guess that's the quality we can expect out of the Craftsman brand, now that it is a Kmart brand.
...

Well... I bought the Craftsman table saw and love it. So I thought I'd try the jointer too. It was a tough choice between the Grizzly and the Craftsman, but I can't imagine being more impressed (so far, only had it 3 days).
The set-up was terrific (especially the sorted nut and bolt package). If you mess that up... you might wanna try cooking.
Everything went together great and I was impressed with the quality of each part. I converted mine to 220v right off. I cranked it up and ran a few boards and I can't believe it. Almost silent... and the boards came out like silk. Square as can be, but I suppose that's mostly set-up.
I read another review about a tipsy base.... all I can think is he/she didn't put on the front and rear panels (which supply a lot of support). Expect a couple of hours in set-up, if you do it right. But having run a few high dollar jointer's... I can't believe the value here. Woohoo....

This jointer is a breeze to set up and I have been extremely pleased thusfar. I have run pine, red oak, hard maple and walnut through it with no problem. I highly recommend this tool, if you own a planer you need a jointer....

Notice i said great Jointer, This is a jointer not a thicknes planer.
sure you can use it to make a pass or two to true up one surface of a board before you run it through your planer but dont try to plane a whole board down with it. It was pretty easy to set up but very heavy. I have not had to change the blades yet buti am dreading it because it looks complicated.
all in all a great jointer very accurate....

The tool is the best looking tool in my woodworking shop.I consider myself mechanically inclined, have been working on and around tools since I was a kid.It took me 2 days to assemble the 112 parts (as I counted the parts).I was very impressed with the quality of the workmanship but immediately encountered a problem. When I put a straight edge across the infeed and outfeed tables it was very obvious that the outfeed table ran downhill badly. The end of the outfeed table was slightly over an eighth of an inch off.The manual gave directions for adjusting the gibs to eliminate play in the side to side movement of the outfeed table but mentioned nothing about leveling the two tables to parallel.I soon found out that the jointer had no gibs for making that adjustment and short of tearing it apart and installing shims there was no way to fix it.Sears was kind enough to send out a repairman but due to no fault of his own he was unable to correct the problem and in fact said that there was nothinng......

I bought this jointer recently at Sears and it performs excellently, especially for around $400. I've run lots of hardwoods through it no problem, and the blades are decent. I don't think that there is a better value on the market that performs this well. Only thing I would change is to add a flywheel adjustment to the infeed table instead of the lever (the outfeed table already has a flywheel), but it works fine. I gave it a 4 for performance but its more like a 4.5, its only because the kinives are very hard to adjust, but that's with any jointer pretty much....

Easy to assemble, except that the drawing in the manual showing the drive pulley was backwards. I called tech support to confirm that was the problem with aligning the pulleys. Alignment of the infeed and outfeed tables was fine out of the box. The end of the outfeed table had a minor cup in it the last 4-6 inches, although it was barely within spec. It was probably not noticable in the dimensions of woodworking, but, being a perfectionist, I ground the raised edges down with a diamond sharpening plate.

The machine works well. I haven't had it long enough to determine reliability or durability, but so far I am very pleased with it....

I have used in for about 3 ~ 4 years to build various things. As a planer, it does a decent job for a narrower lumber. It is not a good idea to use it to plane wider board though. It is more of a jointer, rather than a thickness planer. As a jointer, it does excellent job. Its price is just right. Compared to JET or Delta, this is a pretty good deal.

If you want to plane wider board, buy a thinckness planer. Don't complain about this tool as a bad planer. There is no infeed / outfeed rollers. Your hands are the feeder / thickness setter.

If you feed a long lunber, use supporting roller stands, for your own safety and not to damage the tool....

I bought this jointer at the same time I purchased a table saw and a band saw under the Sears Craftsman Club. By the time I got all the discounts, it was a little over $300. For the money, it was an outstanding deal.

Complaint with a caveat:
When I purchased it, Sears was out of stock. They ordered it and were supposed to call me in 5 days when it came in. By day 8, still no work from Sears so I went down there and found it had been in for 4 days. Got it delivered to the house, unpackaged the box (which was in very bad shape), and found that the cast iron feeder table was broken badly. I called my local Sears store and they gave me 2 options: 1) I could bring back all the pieces and they would give me another unit, or 2) they would order me a new feeder table. Apart form it being a pain to take back, I did so and immediately got a new machine. This one was not broken and all was well. I have to give Sears an At-a-boy for their fine and prompt customer service and would recommend better......

This is the second jointer I've owned and it's better than my first (a Delta, as I recall, around 1996). This machine is sturdy, and was incredibly easy to assemble.
I've used it to smooth the edges of rough-sawn lumber and to plane down thick pieces (instead of breaking out the thickness planer - way less noise, and WAY less mess!) and the results were great.
I got mine on sale (the bennies just keep coming!) and picked it up at my local Sears stores, and have had no problems with it whatsoever.
If you need a good, inexpensive (for the quality) jointer for your home workshop, this has be the one you get....

This is a very solid jointer. It does take 2 people to place the table and adjust the v-belt but it is an easy assembly otherwise. The instructions are a bit confusing when attaching the fence but common sense should win out... a few washers were missing but all other parts were right on. The blades were set properly and the table is flat. I tested it by edge jointing some walnut and face jointing some hard maple... excellent results. This is a very good jointer at a very reasonable price. A mobile base is advised....

IF you've never had a planer/jointer before get this one!!!
It's priced right and does more than I expected, even named it ART as it creates beautiful stock from rough boards....
