I've got about 7 hours on mine so far and it has been running and mowing good.
The engine has plenty of power and is not very loud.
I wish the deck had more up-down range. The range is about 2" to 5". I would prefer the "all up" position of the deck to be well above that. Sometimes when backing it...

The turning radius on this tractor is impressive and much better than expected.
Unfortunately, that is the only feature that has exceeded expectations. The tractor is not safe on slopes approaching 10%. Traction is limited going up the slope, braking especially poor going down and the wheel weights that...

This is the best Craftsman Professional 24 hp 42 in. Deck Deluxe Yard Tractor that I have ever own!! This tractor has lots of power and I never had to adjust anything before cutting. The deck cuts very level, even my neighbors have commented on the smooth and level cutting of the lawn. I owned a Craftsman 22hp 42" deck before but this tractor puts the old on to shame!! I am very satisfied with this tractor so far. I have not had any of the problems of the seat switch on cutting an un-level yard which mine is and it works great. I would strongly recommend this tractor!!!!! Oh, love the color too,...read full review »
Recently purchased this tractor and hard bin catcher(double bin). This is a super combination. Going from an old 17 hp Murray 42" cut mower,I'm having a blast. I highly recommend this mower. No trouble mowing 2 acres anymore(only catch 1/2 acre). Thanks!
I bought this mower to replace another craftsman . The old one was 10 years old and still going strong.(15.5 hp-42"cut) This new mower is so nice it is unreal. You talk about POWER,it has some.24 H.P. Tool Time Tim Taylor would LOVE this mower.I'm mowing a little over one acre, not a problem. This mower is quite and easy to steer.Do yourself a favor,GET ONE
This is my second riding mower and I could not be happier with it. My first one was still going strong but at 12 1/2 hp was a bit slow and I wanted something faster. Well this mower is that and more. Came ready to go and great price compared to ones like it. Only bad thing I have found since I got it is that because it cuts so fast I have learned just how lumpy my yard really is !!! So I am waiting for the lawn roller to come in. This is another great Craftsman product. Thanks Sears !!
Just replaced my old Craftsman with one of these models. What a machine!!! I added a scoop to the front end (removable), moved the rear folding deck from the old to new and added some weight on top of the rear deck. No need for wheel weights. Moves loads of sand with ease and speed. Cuts great too. What a work horse.
I bought this tractor this spring when I bought a 1/2 acre of property that had been neglected for 20 yr. My tractor has met my every expectation and then some. I have cut through johnson grass 6 to 8 ft. tall, using the left blade to cut and the right blade to chew the grass up and spit it out.
My wife loves the adjustable seat and the push button adjustment of the blade.
As far as we are concerned, after 13 hr, we wouldn't trade it for a new green one.
After looking around for a replacement for the old yard machine I found this at sears.Just compare this machine with the ones at the home improvement stores.Same motor, deck and steering systems as the $2500 and up green machines. You cant beat the price and the quality of this mower.Starts the first crank, its quite and easy to steer.I have a .5 yard and it does a great job.
I purchased the Craftsman Professional in early August 2008.. It was delivered to my home. The next day I went to adjust the height of the blades. No matter what adjustment I made, the mower unit would never hang even on both sides. After fooling with it for 3 hours, a friend noticed it was leaning to the left. After making a closer inspection, I saw that the axle was bent. I called Sears, and they said that they would bring me another the next day.
The next day another arrived in the afternoon. Everything seemed fine.. Checked the oil and air pressure in the tires, adjusted the blades, and started...read full review »
I bought this tractor to replace my previous tractor of 10 years. A 19hp Craftsman 42" with 6 spd manual. In comparison this tractor is:
Mower deck- Very similar in appearance but seems to mow somewhat better, especially in the turns. Of course, being new it hasn't mowed any rocks or tree stumps yet.
Tractor- Although physically larger it is more nimble because it steers easier and turns much tighter. The hydrostatic-style transmission makes backing and turning around a snap. Also, backs up much faster. Changing ground speed to match mowing conditions is effortless. Good power and a responsive...read full review »
Bought this model in June 08, 24 hours later it died. Took it back to Sears, was given an exact replacement. Yesterday 8/22/08 the replacement died. Took it back to Sears and got a Snapper. Would not recommend this mower to my worst enemy.
If you're looking for a great running mower that will cut through just about anything, then you found it!!
I just replaced a different Craftsman mower and I'm so glad I did. This thing's V-twin has all the power you'll ever need and its very comfortable and easy to handle.
It makes short order of my 1.5 acres and seems to have decent fuel economy too!
After a long search I finally purchased this mower and couldn't be happier. Has all the stuff you should be looking for: hydrostatic drive, small turn radius, cast iron axles, digital hour meter so you know exactly when the engine needs maintenance, and an amp meter for knowing the health of your electric system. The owners manual is comprehensive, and there are a plethora of add-ons and gadgets available to add to the already capable mower. The seat is well padded and supportive for the lower back. I got this mower at $500 off the list price. I am very pleased with my purchase. The V-twin engine...read full review »
