Most Helpful Favorable Review

I was using an inexpensive curved shaft trimmer for many years until it finally broke.  I decided to go with a straigh shaft this time and wanted a professional model that would last a long time.  I got this Craftsman Professional trimmer and I'm very happy.  I haven't had any problems with it all. ...

Most Helpful Critical Review

After several uses, this seems to be a well built Trimmer.  I debated whether or not to buy the 2 Cycle unit with the ability to handle additional attachments, but decided to go with the Professional Grade, due to the amount of trimming I have to do.

One note of attention out of the box;  Look at the...

Heavy but good quality

It's kind of heavy but with its 4 cycle function it is easy to use and you don't have to mix the oil. It is better than the electric trimmer. Never buy electric trimmer because they are not powerful enough.

2 stars

Poor performance and poor power. Bogs down in moderate grass. In high grass and weeds it is basically useless; the weeds wind around the shaft bogging it down and stopping it. Spend more time cleaning the head than weed whacking. The engine cowling gets hot and burns your arm. It will be going back tomorrow when the store opens.

After using other trimmers, this Craftsman Pro style trimmer (model 79202) topped them all. This trimmer has a 4 cycle engine---no oil and gasoline mixing. It has both a bump feed head and a no hassle string head included. I personally like the 4 string no hassle head which gives a smooth fast cut on thick grass and weeds. When needed this trimmer has explosive power for thick weeds. It weights around 13 pounds and a shoulder strap comes in the package which I really did not feel the need to use. This unit is much lighter than another top rated Craftsman 4 cycle trimmer (model 79197) that came... read full review »

A Pleasant Experience

Model number 316.792020 is quite a pleasant experience in general.  Although this is the first 4 cycle line trimmer that I have purchased for home use, I have used numerous brands on the job site.  This again was a pleasant surprise from the get go, easy to assemble, it took all about ten minutes.  This unit came with two separate heads and to interchange them took some practice but still was easy enough.  I especially like the fact that this came with a heavy duty padded strap.  I will not lie as there is some weight there but with the strap it is not even noticeable if it is adjusted correctly. ...

HOT

fine if your going up from an electric, not good if used to 2 cycle , less power, hot, thought I was going to have a blister the entire length of my arm , ungodly hot and slower than a 2 cycle took twice as long to do a half an acre

Hoping for better

Needed a 2nd trimmer, tried to save $100 but should have bought another Husqvarna. Complex start procedure (push primer 10 times, set choke pull start 5 times, prime 5 times, move choke, hold throttle, pull 4 times), more vibration, louder cheap sound, much less power than same size Husqvarna 25CC engine- bogs down in even moderate grass, no dipstick - have to look down a tube and guess the level. Have to wear a long sleeve shirt as plastic top burns my arm. I bought it so I'll live with it, but when it breaks - goodbye to a bad buy

Bad 4 cycle trimmer

This trimmer I bought about 4 month ago and broke down a couple of days ago.  Oil went to the carburator, start pull system is awwwwwful, also broke down. It get really hot in just 10 minutes of use.   i will never buy another craftmant trimmer, buy Poulan is better.

I just got one of these for Fathers Day from the store located at 1825 N Walnut in OKC. I filled the oil and gas, and followed the instructions to start it. After the 5th pull the motor would not move---so much for "RECONDITIONED." I took it back to the store the next day and the store manager would not repair it. He did have the SAME trimmer but it had a manufacture date ONE month different from mine and thus a different model number that he would upgrade me to at an additional charge. Sounds like the old BAIT & SWITCH from a car dealer. What happened to the old Sears that stood behind their...
