I have owned this Craftsman Garden Tractor for 2 1/2 years now, and simply love it. I does everything that I ask it to do, and has not given me any trouble. The Kohler engine is powerful and runs smoothly. I have used this tractor on a 10 acre piece of land and mowed grass up to 3 feet tall without any problems. I produces a smooth cut (when used on exceptionally high grass, it requires multiple passes) and does not bog down. I just reduce my forward speed when mowing taller grass and this mower can handle it. If you are looking for a versatile, powerful garden tractor, this is definitely... read full review »

Great Value Garden Tractor

This is my fist garden tractor so I have little experience to base any opinions on. However, I see several have complained about the speed but if like mine, your garden is not as smooth as a pool table, then its plenty fast enough. . Yes the reverse is slow but I'm confused why you would want to spend any length of time in reverse and there are plenty of warnings about the dangers of kids and mowers especially in reverse, so I guess that's why! Tractor pulls up hills no problem at all. Turning radius was surprisingly good so unless you need to spin around saplings, then I don't see this as a reason... read full review »

Strong Machine

My wife and I bought a home in the country and it is on a little over 2 1/2 acres. I am from the the city where the lawn I cut was the size of a postage stamp. The folks up there said to get nothing less than a garden tractor to cut that much grass. I found this one on sale with some special discounts and got it for a little more than 2 grand. So far this tractor has been up to the challange. The ground is rough with pits and rutts and there is a grade from front to back. No problem for this machine. The first time I cut the grass it was about 3 feet high. It ate through without bogging down once.... read full review »

Good Deal

Again I was more than pleased with the friendly helpful service at our Sears in Wysox, PA. They are mighty fine folks and had this assembled, gassed and ready to go for us. It works excellent and our teenage son does a great job mowing with it too. All the features are great and it appears that this tractor will last us for many years/mowing seasons to come. Thank you SEARS!

Professional Garden Tractor

This is the "Binford" of all Craftsman tractors! I had a standard craftsman garden tractor for 8 years. Used it for snow-plowing, heavy hauling, grading, aerating, etc. and it never skipped a beat. I bought this last year, and it is still great. Initially, I only wanted an upgrade to the foot pedal controls, but the Pro model has other great features. The electric deck lift for one. I've spent a lot of time comparing to J.D. and other quality brands, and for the sale price craftsman cant be beat. All craftsmen garden tractors have extra heavy duty transmissions, frames, and the Pro series has Kohler... read full review »

Craftsman 27hp 54" deck

I recently bought this unit and I am truly happy with the performance of this unit. I had a sears 24 hp 42"deck mower and it took me a little over 9 hours to cut my grass. Now I cut the same amount of grass in about 3 1/2 hours. I use less that a full tank of gas and that means that I have cut my gas usage by at least 1/2 of what I use to use. This unit has plenty of power and its cutting performance is just undeniably. The seat is just great and it is very comfortable. There are a few small drawbacks: I had a flat tire right away and found out that the valve stem had not been turned in all the... read full review »

It's all good!

I purchased this tractor at my local store. I had a cub I1050 zero turn for a month to try out and it just wasn't what I needed (it was fast and agile, but not a garden tractor.) I have a 3 acre yard I bought 2 years ago uncleared and I'm still developing so I needed a tractor capable of more than grass cutting. I was skeptical of any machine being heavy duty enough for what I wanted. This is much better than anything I have found on the market for working as hard as I do, I removed over 200 trees off my property by myself with a backhoe and a chainsaw, I have leveled, installed two driveways and... read full review »

Good Tractor Poor Setup

Recently moved to 6+ acres of mixed woods, and fields. Bought product to cut grass, fields, and to help w/ gardening tasks. Owned a J. Deere ZTrac in the past & its hydrostatic drive went out in less than 20 hrs of use. Never got it to cut level. Bought the Craftsman and only problem, so far, is that it was delivered w/ a very weak battery. Charged it up & it started right up. Plenty of power for cutting through 3+ ft. high grass and weeds in field. Like others on this blog, don't like "reverse" operation. Why should I need to move ignition key to another position to cut in reverse...probably our... read full review »

Good Tractor

I had a lawn person cutting my grass because it would take me almost 6 hours to cut it with my old tractor. I finally broke down and bought this tractor. I can cut my 2 1/2 acres in about 2 hours. It has a 4 gallon tank (maybe a little more) and it only takes about 2 gallons to cut the whole yard. I am very happy with the tractor, but not very happy with the tires. Both my front tires have been punctured and one rear tire. I got tubes put in them to cut down the possibility of that happening again. I don't know if it was a defect in that set of tires or if the "turf saver" tires just don't stand... read full review »

Just bought

I just bought this Garden Tractor and I am extremely satisfied. I have been researching for months on a new tractor. I decided to stick with craftsmen. I talked to dealers and not one had anything bad to say about craftsmen the only thing they could say was that they haven't updated like everyone else and why fix something that is not broken. I can only say I hope with the deck wash and heavy duty deck it will last a long time. I have two craftsmen lawn tractors sitting ready to take care of someone else's lawn. The Garden Tractor may be slow in reverse but who care's I don't drive in reverse.

Good machine but not better than other Sears

Bought this about two months ago on deep discount. No complaints, it works flawlessly so far and the wide deck does reduce mowing time. Maybe a tiny quibble that it goes verrrry slowly in reverse. I'm giving it five stars but there are two things you should be aware of. First, it came delivered on my lawn in a crate. Mounting the mower deck to the tractor was time-consuming and athletic chore. Be prepared to spend hours under the tractor with a wrench. Unless you enjoy such things, be sure you know who is going to assemble it. Second, I bought this "Professional" line because I hoped it would be... read full review »

Good product, couple of improvements needed.

First the good. For those of you who have been using a regular lawn tractor, this mower isn't a step up, it's a leap up. Great ride, great job mowing, plenty of power, good value for the money. It's literally cut my mowing time by over a third. A couple of nit picky things, both design problems. First, it would be nice to have a way to grease the middle blade spindle on the mower deck without having to take the deck off. Also, even though the mower has a pretty good turning radius for such a large machine, you can't really mow close to anything while turning sharply because the rear gauge wheel... read full review »

Power to Climb

My first riding mower ever with no regrets. Concerned about the hills I have in my yard, I found this mower to have the power to handle the maximum recommended easily. The reverse feature comes in handy when turning on the hill is not an option and already has gotten me out of jam. The optional bagger does its job well though I have yet to install the mulching blades. I was surprised the turning radius was decent so therefore I did not need to go with a zero turn. I am very satisfied with the speed and overall pleased with all its features. Having it for two months I have not had any problems thus... read full review »

Good Tractor but Worried..

I finally had to give up my previous Craftsman 22hp 50"-cut I bought in 1997. The transaxle went bad and repair would have been $2000. I got this one for $2800. Nice tractor, has plenty of power, and I like the wide cut. The adjustable seat is great for the wife and son. It has many features found on those high-priced green mowers like deck wash and cruise control. It can even cut in reverse without holding down some little button. My only problem, and I hope it's not a sign of things to come, is that after 5 hours the drive belt tension spring broke. Sears replaced at no cost and even sent 2 in... read full review »

Satisfied

Great buy, great tractor. this is our families fourth Sears Craftsman garden tractor, '67' Suburban 10HP 42" mower, '72' SS 16HP twin 48" mower,(Took a 2nd place in county fair garden tractor [stock class] pulling contest, I was 16 years old, what fun.) a'92' 18HP 44" mower, But this professional series 27HP 54" deck, is by far the best ride yet. Keep up the good work Sears. Note electric lift did not raise the mower deck all the way at first. found the battery was not charged up all the way. Since then (5 weeks 14.8 hours.) No problems
