After about 10 uses, the 4-Way chute control handle lost all control over the left and right hand chute movement.  Upon further investigation I noticed that a steel roll pin had worked/vibrated its way out of the shaft that goes into the bottom of the handle .  I was able to get a long flat screwdriver down along the chute control handle and tap the roll pin back in after aligning the hole in the handle to the hole in the shaft.  This appears to be a poor design in that there should have been a through bolt and nut holding the control handle to the shaft or somthing to prevent the roll pin from vibrating out.  I have used the snow-blower one more time and noticed that the roll pin is already working its way out again.  I'm not sure I will request warranty service or just pull the plastic housing off that holds the headlamp, etc. and put either a bolt and nut in place of the roll pin or just flare out the roll pin on each end to prevent it from vibrating out again.  Any other reports of a similar problem?

Wow!

That must be a LOT of vibration.

Never heard of a roll-pin so easily working loose.

Normally, you gotta use a "special" punch to get one OUT of its hole.

NYUser,

We don't have any reports of similar problems, but it's definitely an issue in your case. Did you decide whether to have warranty service or take care of it yourself?

I haven't decided, I may give my local Sears a call and verify my warranty, etc.  It was just purchased in Sept. 09, therefore, I may wait until spring to address it from a warranty standpoint.  If I decide to go with the warranty service, I won't attempt to correct myself in an effort not to "void" the warranty.

The simplest approach would probably be to just get it serviced. I've checked around and that pin absolutely should not be coming loose.

On the First Use that roll Pin came out on my Machine. No doubt is that an issue.

Also why in the world did they use plastic gearing?

Another Issue, the Squeeze Trigger forthe chute rotation has 3/4 Play in it and then it releases the chutes movements, what is the cause of this ?

My chute control won't go up and down after 4 uses.  Hard to see inside the control; it's "sealed".  Any ideas?

If outside of warrenty the part you need to order for this particular model appears to be the complete 4 way control part number 984-04338.
