I have had this Craftsman Pro chainsaw for two years, it always starts right up and has been a very dependable saw. I have cut more wood with this saw in the last several years than most saws will ever see in a lifetime of use. I have been very impressed with it. Last year my son was working for a guy and needed to borrow my saw for several days. The guy and my saw fell forty feet out of a tree, the guy broke his hip and the saw only bent the bar. I straightened the bar out and have cut up countless trees with that bar. I finally replaced the bar this year. Last week the handle broke on it, which probably fractured from the fall last year.

I too had the chain tightening tool break on me the very first time I tried to loosen up the two bolts that keep the chain tight. I've used a 3/8 ratchet ever since then with a 13mm socket.
...

My wife got me this saw for my birthday in march and its never worked right from the day i took it out of the box. First problem it wouldn't stay running then it would even start after having that repaired i get it back and now it starts nice but as soon as you go to cut anything the chain stops and the motor dies. I have never had a new saw that has had the problems this one has right out of the box. I have used this saw for about 10 hours of cutting and now it has to go back to sears again. Out of having this saw for for 3 months sears has had it for a month the first time and probably a month this time. There warranty is a joke every-time you have a problem it takes them at least a month to get back to you. Very disappointed with this saw this will be the last chain saw that i ever buy from sears. Im very sorry that I bought this saw. JUNK
...

Great saw so far. I have only cut a couple 12" diameter trees down and diced them up into 18" logs. And used it on a deck construction job slicing through 6x6 beams like they were butter. I am very impressed. Too bad it doesn't start on the first pull like my Honda mower. But 4 easy pulls isn't too bad. Yeah, I'd buy it again. I'm thinking of buying some tree climbing spurs and going into the bussiness.
...

I have had a 16 craftsman for years so when it came time to upgrade I went right back to Sears. Bought two days ago and have cut approx 15 trees with this saw. If you like wearing gloves while you cut do not buy this saw, because I cannot start it with gloves on. However, if you like a saw that is very hard to start after running out of fuel and does not cut straight then this is the saw for you! Chain will not stay tight and dulls very quickly.
...

The saw was powerful enough to work through two stacks of wood 14ft x 18in in a matter of a several hours (took a few breaks!). The saw was easy to start, altho you may have problems with the choke if you have thick fingers. The Japanese guy that assembled the saw must have had more than his share of Wheaties that day because the chain adjustment nuts were on so tight I could not budge them, even with a pry bar on the accompanying tool (the tool broke where the screwdriver connects to the nut wrenches). Finally had to use a socket wrench and pry bar. After that, the chain adjusted easily and only had to be adjusted a few times during the 4-5 hours of use. The saw cleaned up quickly after the job and stows nicely in its case. The case has places to put your chain sharpening files, your chain adjustment tool (that I broke), your manual, etc. I am very pleased with the purchase and recommend it.

Recently researched for a replacement for my older 18" craftsman chain saw. After visiting the web, decided to visit my local Sears. After checking out all the models currently available, i decided to see what the sales rep had to say about this saw. I was pretty sure this was the one before asking. I was more interested to see if this saw was returned frequently for repairs or defects. I know the sears reps and they will let me know which tools are working and which are returned frquently. Once home, i found this saw to out perform itself. Cutting 20" mesquite trees has been a breeze. The only thing I found to be annouying is the chain. Chain does not like to stay very tight. Have to stop after several cuts to tighten the chain back up or the chain will jump off the bar.
...

Finally a light, but powerful saw that starts right up every time and doesn't stall, but will idle as long as there's gas in the tank! Now that I'm a bit older (55yrs) I truely appreciate the light weight of the saw and it's compact size for cutting in tight quarters. It's a pleasure to pick up the saw and know it's going to start with-in 5 pulls and that it won't keep stalling out on you. I also own a larger Stiel saw (much heavier) which I now reserve for those few bigger cuts, but as soon as I can, I change over to this one. Another great feature is it's very low vibration; I've run this thing for 3 hours staight without getting a sore arm or fatigue that one often gets with most other saws.

I also read the other comments in this forum before I purchased the saw and was convinced that I would be getting a good saw when I found out that this one is made in Japan and that the company is owned by Husqvarna. Sears must know this is a touph saw because they only charge 90 bucks for a 5 year...
...

Purchased this with advice from another review. This machine is in fact a Zenoah/Komatsu chain saw. The first unit purchased worked fine, although the main handle was shattered upon taking it out of the box. I returned it for a second unit, brought it home and started it. The second saw had a problem with the chain brake and after the initial 5 minutes of running, the side with the chain brake started smoking/melting the plastic housing. I took the unit back and they advised they had no more in stock. I asked to take the handle of the second one and transfer it to the first. They did not have a problem and the exchange was made and the first saw is running fine. Other than the chain brake issue, this saw runs great.
...

After two days of working this saw hard I'm happy that I purchased it.

It's pretty light for its power which makes a big difference when you're up a ladder.

My old saw was hard to start especially when warm. But not this one, only once in two days did it not fire up first pull. A huge difference when you are up in a tree.

The oil tank is fairly small so you need to be careful not to run it dry and blunt a chain like I did. But I don't really mind that because less fluid equals less weight.

Well worth the money so far. Hope it lasts!...

Excellent saw, lightweight and compact. A little research reveals the saw made in Japan by Zenoah, a Japanese company bought by Husqvarna a couple of years ago. It looks exactly like the Zenoah GZ4000, the placement of the two reservoir caps and every other feature looks identical. It is a low emeission engine which barely smokes while in use. Very different to the old saw I had which could be counted on to produce clouds of smoke when in use. The bar and chain are by Oregon and the chain tensioner mechanism is all metal. While I haven't figured out which screw the diagram refers to, the oiler appears to have be adjustable. The idle speed has an adjustment as well. The high and low fuel air adjustments are factory set and were just fine from the start. The Japaanese version (and its manual) calls for 10-30 w oil for the bar oiler. The sears manual calls for straight bar oil which resulted in the chain running a little dryer than I liked. I tried 10-30 and that seemed to work ok, but got......

Purchased this chainsaw in April to finish cleaning up after December's ice storm when my father-in-law needed his Husqvarna back. After comparing many models I settled on the Craftsman pro for its light-weight, quick chain tensioning system and low price (I purchased it on sale).

In felling and bucking about a dozen trees with diameters up to 30" I have not been disappointed. The saw starts easily every time, runs great and slices through everything like a hot knife through butter.

Only recommendation is using a good bar/chain oil. The first generic brand I bought was used up prior to the tank of gas; I've found that Husqvarna brand oil works very well....

I've become pretty skeptical of Craftsman products in recent years but picked up the Craftsman Professional 18" saw to replace an early 80's Craftsman due to a great sale price.

I've had it for about a year now and have no complaints whatsoever. It's got plenty of power, is lightweight and relatively quiet. It always starts with a couple pulls.

It's got a plastic housing but has turned out to be fine and has taken some pretty good hits falling off stumps and tailgates with no damage. Easy to use controls and even a decent case.

If you're going to get a Craftsman saw for light to medium-duty use, this is the saw to get....

I purchased this chain saw through my local Sears outlet store.

The Salesman was very professional and was able to get me this saw quickly.
I picked up the saw and brought it home. It went to work the next day cutting down a tree at a Church.
The tree was 36 inches around. I fired up the saw and it started on the 1st pull.
The saw ran great and had plenty of power. It sliced through the wood like butter, I was pleasantly surprised with how little vibration there was with this saw.
This was easy on my hands and arms. The power band was smooth from idle to full throttle.

The saw is light weight and very easy to control. I would recommend this saw to anyone.
It did a fine job as I ran it for 4 hours straight.
I really appreciate the quality that Craftsmen tools have.
This saw will probably last for 2o years or better.
I also like the fact that parts are so easy to acquire for Craftsmen products. This saw comes with a complete parts breakdown in the owners manual and an easy method to order......
