“Great Product, Just a Few Tweaks”

Craftsman Professional 44&#34 High Speed Universal Tow Sweeper — 

I bought the Craftsman Sweeper as an alternative to a power bagger for my John Deere x520 tractor that costs literally three times as much. I mow almost 4 acres, some of it uneven. I've owned it for about two months now. Assembly was okay with the instructions being better than I expected from other reviews. There were a few steps that were a bit unclear, but nothing that can't be overcome with a few minutes of thought time. Totally assembly time was about an hour. Initial use was simple and easy once you get the level of the attachment to the tractor worked out. This is important as the bottom, leading ledge of the sweeper (the edge that actually rides along the grass) can deflect a bit if it gets too much resistance. Collection is easy and dumping is straight-forward. One suggestion for grass clippings is to wait until the next day so they have time to dry out a bit. This will allow the sweeper to get more into the collection bagger. The sweeper clearly does best with dry debris. It does okay with the wet stuff, but is not as efficient. One added benefit of the sweeper is that it leaves very clear stripes which looks great on a healthy lawn. The only modification I had to make was the addition of a 36" x 2" piece of steel c-stock just above the leading edge of the sweeper (the one I mentioned can deflect if you get the attachment height on the tractor wrong). I did this not because of a design flaw, but rather that since I have some uneven terrain, I observed that the edge would occasionally rub against soil high spots. This is the reason sweepers aren't recommended for use on uneven terrain!!! But with this modification, I have not had a single problem or concern even on uneven terrain. A very good product at a reasonable price.
