I have 3/4 acre of grass broken up with trees, shrubs, stone walls etc. This mower cut my work way down, and I can cut more often, presenting a better looking lawn.

It does what is is supposed to so no need to repeat the obvious.

Some unexpected pluses. The large wheels take it over soft (even wet muddy) areas easily and without leaving wheel marks. At the slow speed, I can even manuever it in and out of the irregular shape of my stone walls, dramatically cutting down on trimming.

The only problem I have had is the battery discharging (sometimes) to 10 volts between runs, and that is not quite enough to start the engine. I've discovered a small current draw when the mower isn't running, but have not yet determined the cause.

A small battery charger is used to recharge the battery to start the mower.

TioMiguelito says "Craftsman Professional Wide-cut mower cuts great, poor battery" about Craftsman Professional Lawn Mower 33 In. Self-Propelled 12.5 HP Non CA

I'll start with the pros: This mower is a beast! It cuts very tall, and even wet, grass with the greatest of ease. The 33" cutting diameter makes mowing my 1/2 acre lawn very simple. It cut my mowing time in HALF! Plus with the huge 2 gallon gas tank, I can get several mowings done before needing to refill. The mulching attachment works great leaving no visible clumping, even in tall, wet grass. The electric start is a nice change from pulling a cord all the time. Very easy to adjust deck height. Also very easy to change speeds with the leg push-lever. Controls on the handles are fairly easy to use.

Now the cons: although the levers are fairly easy to use, it is annoying that you have to keep both hands on at all times. If you even want to scratch your nose, you'll have to either stop the blade or stop the drive. Not a huge deal. What is a bigger deal is the fact that I've had to jump the battery several times when I leave it sit for a little over a week.

I purchased this lawn mower online 6/16/11. Received it 7/7/11. I downloaded the Craftmans owners manual online on 6/16/11. The owners manual indicated that I had cutting deck spindle grease fittings on my lawn mower. The Craftsman manual I received with the mower did not indicate that I had cutting deck grease fitting on my lawn mower. I use the smart hose to clean under my lawn mower. So I wont know until I do the end of season storage if I have cutting deck grease fittings? The Craftmans owners manuals have a different air filter cover and filter than my lawn mower has.The mower also came with a Briggs & Stratton manual. Some directions ( on all manuals) for changing the oil say after the first 2 hours of use and another says after 5 hours of use. Places in the manuals say change the oil every 25 hours and other sections say change the oil every 50 hours. My mower comes with a fuel filter.I do not have a feul pump. Some of these models come with a fuel filter and fuel pump. Depending...
...

The Good:

1. Got it home, put gas in, checked oil and started cutting. Was tired of spending so much time cutting with my 21 inch mower so I decided to pick this up. Cut my mowing time down substantially. Couldn't believe how quickly I finished the yard.

2. Cut quality is excellent.

The Bad:

1. Noticed at the beginning after a few passes that the brake was hanging up and got extremely hot (do not touch - you've been warned). No information in the manual regarding the brake which I assume is suppose to disengage when the drive control is activated. May just be an adjustment issue. Seemed to fix itself after a short time. I'll have to keep my eye on it the next time I mow.

2. More concerning is a rather loud rattle while cutting and de-throttling. Not sure whats causing this but if it continues I might have to take it in to have it looked at. Too much $$$ to take a chance.

Time will tell...
...

I have had this mower for about one month. I have used the mower three times for a total of about 30 minutes -it broke down within 10 minutes of use each time. Maybe a lemon, but it was very light duty mowing. So far Sears service (mostly through the 800 line) has been poor. People were nice, but gave misinformation. Most critically, I was told that I had 90 days to return item for a full refund so I wasn't worried about trying to get it fixed a few times. Now that I am experastered and wanting to return it, however, I hear that the return window is 30 days (naturally, this info is provided just beyond the 30 day window). After multiple phone calls I finally have customer service willing to take the mower back (maybe a total of 5 or 6 hours on the phone over the last 30 days - 2+ hrs today), but for all of my frustration, I get to pay a $200 (15%) restocking fee. yay! I'll let you decide if you think I will ever shop at Sears again.
...

At first I thought this mower was a bit tough to handle but after a few times I can use it with much greater ease. You just have to adjust compared to a 22 inch mower, its alot beefier. Perfect for resendtial use,I would'nt use it like a commercial unit, those type are more expensive, they shred grass better and are intended for everyday use all day, this is specific to the homeowner with alot of obsatcles and a desire for some excercise.

I cuts nicer on the discharge then mulching IF the grass gets to long, otherwise, doesn't matter. Its fun in my opipnion to cut grass with it,tractors are easier but boring, less excercise, harder to manuver. If the grass gets to tall, you will need to double over your cut or bag it with another unit. I do both sometimes the grass gets to thick, creates thatch buildup iunless you stay caught up with your grass. I don't recommend this mower to someone that has a bad ticker unless you pace yourself,it is easy to use though and cuts clean.
...

This mower is a cub cadet with the sears name on it. The only difference is sears specified a slightly higher power engine (same Briggs and Stratton 344 cc model, just 12.5 HP vs. 11.5 HP on the cub cadet), and sears added a light for evening use, which works great. I've used the mower several times and it performs wonderfully. Cuts heavy tough grass with ease and the cut is clean and even. The drive system is very easy to use and far superior to ordinary self-propelled walk behind mowers. I used to own a ********** 48" comercial walk behind, and this unit is far easier to handle, and of similar quality.

The only things I've noticed to criticize are the deck wash system, which works as advertized, but slowly. The manual says run it for at least 2 minutes and it takes 3 or 4 to work. I found it quicker and easier to tip the mower back (not running) - it will rest nicely with the handles on the ground - and then simply spray the underside of the deck with your garden...
...

After years of dealing with 20-22" mowers of all makes and models, when the last one died, I vowed to never again have to cut grass with one. I cut a 1/3 acre lot and before purchasing this mower, it would take over 6 hours to cut and trim the entire yard. Probably closer to 8 hours total. When the last lawnmower died, I'd had it. I informed the wife that the lawnmower had died and I was off to buy a new one. She forgave me later. LOL

I picked it up and had it ready for operation very quickly. Gave it a good shakedown run. In fact, the back yard was over a foot high and had standing water in places from two days before. It not only plowed right through that thick grass, never clogged up and practically dragged me around the yard. So glad I went with the larger engine size. And the electric start... After years of pulling until I thought my arm would fall off, THAT was an absolute dream.

Not only that, the gas tank holds over four gallons! I fill this thing up once a month! So many good...
...

This thing is a beast!. I mow about 1/2 acre, and was paying a guy to come whenever HE wanted, so the lawn still looked like it needed to be cut most of the time. I was using an old Sears gas push mower and it took about two hours. Now I can do it in 45 minutes. My return on investment will be a little more than one season. Start right up and the mulch cover does the job, even on a speed of three (out of four). Easy to maneuver.
...

Returning this mower...I have a lawn care business and just like the other review this mower is not for commercial use. Drive pulley belt continues to slip off. Mows great when all is working well but you can't make sharp turns or hit bumps at any speed or the belt will pop off. It's not an easy task to put it back on either especially when it's hot and you're in a hurry to finish your jobs...Starts up ok never had any problem with that and again it makes a great cut. Don't like the idea you have to keep both hands on the mower to make everything work and the type of handles that are required to depress are difficult to reach up and press down because they are way to high.

much better then my riding mower. closer cut on borders and around trees, gardens etc. Love the turning radius.can pretty much turn on a dime. Just wish you could take one of your hands off the controlls without having to stop the drive or blades. Great cut, nice and even. Nice wide deck. After my old craftsman rider died, went to Toro personal pace till the drive died on that. Now cut my lawn in 1/2 the time as compared to Toro AND it's even faster than the rider beacuse of the above mentioned ease of operation which eliminates having to use trimmer more on tight clean ups.

Have only had it a month so far but love it. Hope it stands the test of time and usage.

This mower is NOT for commercial use. After 40 hours cable broke to engage movement, new cable arrived 7 days later. After 50 hours drive belt continuely pops off. Pulleys grind against the guides, due to chasis flex, while cutting across a slope. After 60 hours battery died, Sears replaced with no hassle. After 80 hours, frame cracked clean through above the rear axle on BOTH sides. Only thing holding the trans in place was the lever to change gears. Sears replaced the mower with a new unit, with little time and no hassle. Again, I will stress this mower is NOT for commercial use. This mower is good for your average homeowner, with grass no taller then your ankles.
...

Bought this mower and can't feel much better about buying it.At this writing I have mowed over 75 yards. It IS my favorite mower ever. I own a 42" riding tractor a 32" PRO Snapper walk behind with sulky and a $900 21" walk behind Snapper and this mower is the best.In South Texas where you can almost swim in the humidity and the heat is more than most people can handle, turning a key and this mower starting is great already. My customers who aren't even around when around when I mow their yard notice a better cut and ask if I had gotten a new mower.YES it cuts that good! A little tweak with the chute will give an excellent discharge. If your a healthy guy and you love sports, buy this and you won't miss much!...

This mower is a beast....I love it. I've cut my grass cutting time by more than half...and I hate to mow grass. Most of my property is hillside and although this mower is a little heavy, it does an excellent job. It has plenty of power and is easy to turn even on the hills. I can't use a riding mower on my property due to the hilly terrain, but this mower is the next best thing. I don't mind spending money on well built products and this mower has fit the bill so far....

I am very pleased with thie mower. It does an excellent job of Mulching. With any Mulcher, grass should be dry, and cut no more than 1/3 of grass height. I have mulched more than 1/3 grass length and still get good results, no clumping. very maneuverable, even cutting, and plant of power. Muffler is slightly loud for me,so I use ear protection. Cleans easily also. The Zero degree turn allowes me to the mower for trim work and I only occosioanlly will use my Weed Trimmer. I save time comapred to using a 20" mowere combined with a tractor plus I get good excercise walking. Excellent machine, easy to operate....
