Just bought

I will follow this review up once I have had a few cuts on it but wanted to add somethings for people researching lawn tractors. I have gone through and over just about every mower there is in the 42" 20ish HP category. This is the one I settled on and I want to let you know why. First off I graded the... read full review »

Disappointed

I was excited after ordering this tractor. It seemed like a solid machine at a great price. Well the day of delivery came and sears dropped the tractor off when they said they would. I had ordered the tractor with the mulching kit. Well they dropped it off, and that's all they did. They gave me a box... read full review »

EXCELLENT TRACTOR

This tractor has many nice features...Bought with 200.00 discount, Father's Day 100.00 extra discount...and another 50.00 off for on-line purchase. More importantly, IT IS a GOOD HEAVY DUTY tractor. You pay much more for other brands with same HP and features...went on-line to order extra accessories.

POOR PREPARATION

Just received my mower. So Far---- 1) Front bumper lowering mechanism does not operate properly. Either installed incorrectly or not adjusted. 2) Steering wheel off center, almost 90 degrees. 3) All four tires seriously over inflated 4) Mower deck not level left to right 5) Mower deck not correctly set front to rear. 6) Operators manual poor quality. Pictures are washed out. I purchased this mower to replace my John Deere. I am disappointed with the lack of preparation before delivery. Had zero problems when I received my John Deere. Hope I haven't made a mistake. After I have used the mower a... read full review »

I was on the fence a while about how big of a mower I needed for my 3/4 acre yard with a fair amount of obstacles like trees, a pool to avoid blowing debris into, and lots of flowerbeds.  I eventually decided a ZTR just wasn't warranted and purchased this mower about 1.5 months ago.  I've cut the yard 5 or 6 times now, and have been very pleased with the quality of cut and ease of use for this mower.  It seems to be well made, and I hope to run it for many years.  It would have been nice to come with a mulching plug.

Had mine one month now and so far all is well. Nope they did not put mine together on delivery either, the mulching bags. The 3 bag unit which works well, with all bags filling with no jams. A little louder engine than I anticipated but hey my old unit was 12 horse, this is 24. Turns on a dime and goes like crazy, cuts my lawn in half the time. Ordered the mulching blades as well and just installed them. Works well and no more bagging, will save that for fall leaves. The electric blade engage is nice, push a button instead of reaching around the front of the steering wheel. This machine is very...

awesome mower

Purchased as a replacement for 8 year old Sears LT1000 21hp 42" which was a great mower, but there really is no comparison... this new model is much better (and only cost $400 more). Steers like it has power steering, cuts very level, engine starts up and runs strong, and the power deck on/off switch is nice. The downsides to this mower: does not come with mulching blade & kit, the hood does not close very well and has to be secured during any kind of transport or it just bounces around scratching up everything, and the reverse operation system. It is annoying that you have to remember to turn... read full review »

Mower Upgrade

Purchased this mower to replace a 21 year old John Deere. I have also been using my neighbor's brand new JD mower from time to time so I am able to make a comparison to the new JD. As other posters stated, job one was to adjust the deck. The tires were over inflated by a factor of two, so getting them to the correct pressure was job one. Leveling the deck was job two. It was so far off it wasn't even close. In fact, it was so tilted towards the rear that the mower deck rubbed on the rear right tire. Are you kidding me? How tough would it be for Sears to ship this thing level? Considering it took... read full review »

Just plain excellent lawn tractor

We had a fairly new Cub Cadet for our 2.4 acres, but the darn thing kept throwing belts and being just plain ornery, so out it went. In its stead, the Craftsman Professional PYT 24 HP/42" Yard Tractor came in, and I must say, it was a perfect purchase. After looking at all the available riding mowers in the $1000-2500 price range, and taking good, quick and affordable service into consideration, we decided on this mower, complete with the three-year warranty Sears offers. It is a joy to use, is powerful enough for our partly sloped lot, pulls a utility trailer or a sweeper with ease, mulches like... read full review »

Sweet mower

Purchased this model Oct 29, 2009. Great seat, easy start, turns tight around trees, easy to set the cutting height, easy to drop the brush guard and open the hood, nice automatic transmission and good speed control. The hood fit is a little sloppy and the tire tread traction is not the best. Maintence looks good, easy to drain the oil.

Finally Fixed

Sears replaces transmission and added another side adjustment to the side that is just a rod to make leveling deck proper to settings. They adjusted choke adjustment to make it start up fast. They canceled two apointments in a row after I waited home most of the day. The Customer service in India is a big disapointment and a slap in the face when you want to buy a USA Product and deal with local people. Call the One Source 800 number to talk to someone that knows what they are selling. I am finally happy with the way the tractor is performing. Buy one of these tractors with the foot pedal transmission...

I Like it....

Just bought this machine as an update from my L1000 that I have. Personally I like the new color scheme. I used it for the first time the other night and was impressed. Its a quiet running machine, cuts great, seems to have all the power necessary for my applications, turns well, though the steering wheel is a little off center. The auto transmission is a Kick, the turning radius is great. But to tell you the truth, I really wasn't that impressed with the "Self Cleaning" system. Seemed like to me all the water did was to make goo out of the leavings trapped under the pan, especially on the discharge... read full review »

The Craftsman PYT 9000 is the best yard tractor for the price that I could find anywhere. A 24 HP tractor for under $1700 is unheard of. It handles my grass cutting needs (about 3/4 acre) with ease and it pulls my loaded trailer with no problem. Its easy to start and I like the run time meter. The kill switch in the seat is a problem - you have to be in the middle of the seat or it shuts off. If you bounce or lean to one side you have a problem. The seat, while very comfortable, is slippery and its hard to stay centered especially if you are on an incline. The only other comment relates to the...

My First Rider

I know you're thinking, "Why is this newbie writing a review on riders"? Well, with my extensive background on mechanical devices I felt I'm qualified to comment (USAF Aircraft Mechanic/25 years experience) plus I've been cutting grass since I was eight. Anyway, I purchased the 24 hp/42" cut professional mower and I love it! Like several other reviews, I had a run in with the delivery/pickup. I order the mower with the mulching kit to be installed by Sears. Of course on pickup day, the kit is not installed and the maintenance guy had nerve enough to tell me to come back later that evening, it would... read full review »

So far so good

I picked my tractor 42/24 Hp mower last night. Like most of you when I picked it up, the guys at sears pickup hand me a box with the mulch kit and another one for the front brush guard. It still had the plastic shrink wrap on the front of it. When I first started it up, it took a minute for it to start but it did and runs great. Backing it down my 4 wheeler ramps it had power to spare. The engine actually runs quieter than the 18 hp on the mower I am replacing. Putting together the mulching kit took about 1 minute. Most of these are shipping with mulching blades so you really only need to put... read full review »

So far so good........

I bought the PYT9000 24HP/42" mower last Tuesday at our local Sears.  I also purchased the 2 bagger unit (soft), mulching kit, dethatcher unit and loading ramps.  Judging by the girls face I think it made her day.  She was new but found someone who could help answer my questions.  I'm a big believer in informing yourself about the product before you go to the store.  I had looked at several other mowers but kept coming back to this one.  Everything I read gave big props to the new Briggs and Stratton ELS V-Twin engine.  I'm no engine guru but I've heard enough from those that are, to stay...
