Did it vibrate? Yes. Doesn't now. The big retaining washers probably are at the root of your vibration problems also. I faced the rock side of the washers in the lathe, only used the chuck to seat the washer against using the center to keep it in place. Just a couple of clean up cuts. Next ,to...

Most Helpful Critical Review

A spacer was left off during factory assembly which caused the grinder to vibrate and the grinding wheel to break. It bent the housing and destroyed the wheel. Working with Sears to replace the parts but am running into people problems. They seem to be more paperwork oriented than customer service oriented....

Great Value

I got this grinder on sale for $99.99, I believe that to be a great value.  The grinder is quiet, well balanced, and worked well for it's first task of sharpening mower blades.  I was quite impressed.  The variable speed is nice when using the brush wheel.  It was extremely easy to set up - had it up and running with all safety features in placed in about 10 minutes.  I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for bench grinder of considerable value.

After i purchased this unit I found it as a Craftsman in an industrial ctalog for $30.00 less than the sale price at Sears and a home improvement store has the same unit with a different brand name for about $119.00, with a better warranty. I found the stone to be out of balance and the wheel dresser did not fit the holder brackets (they broke the first time the dresser was installed in them). The speed control is a plus as the the heat from grinding is held to a mininum. The left side arbor is too short for another 1" fine stone. The tool rests may be an issue as they are aluminum and will not...

I've had this for a while now and its a great grinder but VIBRATES horribly after assembly...the grinding wheel took some major dressing but it's now settled in and working good....i would recommend it to anyone looking for a good grinder to last a long time

I have had this grinder for about a week now.  When I first turned it on it was OK at slow speed but as I turned it up the vibration got progressively worse to the point that the whole stand was dancing around the floor.  I tried after market Norton  wheels and the problem was even worse.  I have tried to true up the wheel to no avail.  I am going to take it back and try another brand.  Hopefully I can find one that doesn't vibrate like this thing. I am very disappointed.

I read the reviews and checked out the grinder at the store.  I needed to replace an old POS Cummings that bogged down under load.  I got this home, and after assembly, fired it up- waiting to catch it.  It never moved!  I tried it at all speeds and did some light grinding w/o clamping it down.  I normally clamp it, but that's because I press the workpiece into it to remove stock (i.e.: Mower Blades, rounding steel bracket & gusset material).  This grinder had not bogged down once.  I am very pleased with this purchase.  It works just as good as shop grinders (that cost tons more) that...

I would like to know the horse power rating ,cant find it anywhere.

I needed a tool to remove rust from old horseshoes for metal crafts.  Worked just as described, with plenty of power.  I was surprised at how quiet the machine was, and how smooth it operated.  No issues with the terrible vibrations that people have described, and I just have it sitting on my workbench.  Next plan is to build a stand from pipe and a harrow disc.  I would recomend this product to anybody.  It did included a 1 year warranty.

very nice bench grinder!

i needed a bench grinder that would stand up to my daily use. after a lot of reserch, i went with this bench grinder. wow this thing is powerful! it does vibrate a little, but thats ok with me, just make sure you bolt it down tight. this thing is full of features too, i love that it has a lock on it that if pulled out, the grinder won't turn on. the light is more handy than i thought it would be. if you need a bench grinder that will stand up to anything, and want one that is at a good price, get this one!

8 " Professional Bench Grinder

After returning back the Harborfreight brand "sound louder than my washer/dryer and I have to chase it everytime I turned in on". I bought this one and it works flawless. It's way quieter and less shaking. With this grinder you can set it anywhere without bolting it down, and it would not move even at high speed. If you are looking for a grinder, I would check this one out first.

dancing grinder

I purchased this grinder for sharpening lathe tools, because of the slower speed. When I first used it I noticed that there was a significant grinder wheel wobble both sideways and in an egg shaped rotation. I put another wheel on and had the same effect. I purchased a Norton wheel and it still did the same thing. A third wheel also had the same effect. I returned the unit to Sears and the salesman was very helpful and readily offered to exchange it. However, I was told this unit was being phased out and was not currently available so he provided a substitute. The substitute does not have the same... read full review »

Nice grinder for the price.

I purchased this grinder primarily for sharpenning lathe tools. So I mostly use the slowest speed. But is nice to have the variable speed for other occasional uses. It has performed well so far. The problem with vibration that others have noted is caused by out-of-balance wheels, not the grinder itself. I replaced the stock wheels with high-quality balanced wheels and the grinder runs very smooth at all speeds. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I don't know how it will hold up over time.

Horrible machine

I didn't use it much, but was surprised at how much it vibrated. When I added a wolverine sharpening jig I found I couldn't even true the wheels. Horrible machine; don't buy it at any price.
