First, of all I will say the key start is a very nice feature. Second is the hi-vac works very well it will suck up pine needles were my old craftsman lawn mower would pick up very few. Third it will fill the bag plumb full.It is a very smooth quite lawn mower compared to the old mower also,variable... read full review »

The key start is great. Engine is quiet and powerful. Speed control is great. I like everything except the bag. The grass is emptied via a bag attached to a plastic housing with a hinge. The bag doesn't close onto the plastic housing securely. Thus a 1 inch gap allows all the dust to escape into a huge... read full review »

Pros: The power of the Brigs/Stratton 7.75 cannot be equaled for the price, it cut through my tall, wet grass with ease. The power of the rear wheel drive was good, it kept me walking at a nice pace (not too fast or slow) and had no trouble at all traversing my lawn of hills/valleys. The vacuum system was great, not one blade of grass left behind, sucked everything in site, my yard appeared to look like a Professional stadium once complete (minus ruts by the tires, notes in the Cons) Cons: I could not get the rear wheel drive off the majority of the time (w/o turning the engine off and pushing... read full review »

I love the mower. I have several large hills in front of my house. Important to me were the larger 9 inch wheels (wider too) and the rear wheel drive. It goes up every hill without any hesitation and the engine is strong enough to go through some very thick grass uphill w/o any hesitation or power loss. The drive control is very easy to use, but I agree, is not super fast, but is fast enough. As for the Hi-Vac system, I couldn't tell any difference between this mower and my old convential deck/bagging system. If you're tempted to spend the extra money because of it, no need to. I also agree with... read full review »

Purcahsed new-in-box from Sears. Mower did not have all necessary nuts and bolts in box. Bottom of deck shows bare steel. Will lead to rust sooner. Mower started on first pull after assembly. Very nice. Hi-Vac system works well. "Dust catcher" bag only catches dust when parked in garage. Bag is more difficult to remove/install that most mowers. Engine is weak. I have a slight grade on parts of my lawn and it really bogs down this mower. My previous old Toro had less of a problem mowing uphill, and it needed replaced. Fastest speed is not fast. I felt like I was pushing it at a normal pace.... read full review »

The lawnmower is not worth the money if you need to bag your grass. The engine is great, it cuts through tall grass with ease. The self propel function works well. It's a good lawn mower for mulching. The bagging system is HORRIBLE. The "EZ Empty Bag" is truly easy to empty...it empties itself all over the yard as you cut. It comes open all the time while you are cutting. Even when it's closed all the way it blows clippings all over the place. Funny how a good mower becomes a piece of junk due to such a simple design oversight.

This unit has one serious design flaw which I'm not sure whether it's a craftsman problem or a Briggs problem. As I was making my first pass around my front yard, mowing next to my neighbors fence, a rose bush stem brushed up against the engine and I instantly lost rpms. Turns out it hung in the governor spring and stretched it out straight on the first few coils, which took the tension off of the governor. There is no reason not to have a simple plastic guard over that part of the engine. I could easily fix it and could probably fashion a makeshift guard to go over it but I despise modifying... read full review »

This is hands down the best mower I have ever used. The drive system is awsome, unbeatable power, incredible precision, and great suction. Some reviews complained about the grass clippings comming out the side of the bagger. You have to push on the bagger housing until it clips into place, it then seals and nothing comes out. I am VERY impressed.

This mower is really awesome! I just started a Lawn Service and needed some quality mowers. I bought two mowers at Sears. The self propelled and the key start makes this equipment well worth the money.

I was looking to replace my 10-year-old Snapper mower, which has served me well, save for recent difficulty starting. I picked this Craftsman mower, based on the reviews, and bought it two days ago. It was easy to set up, and started like a dream. However, the rear bagging system is poor, in that the mower quits suction once the bag is half full. Moreover, when you attempt to remove the bag, grass inevitably falls out. Also, no padding on the handlebar hurts after a half hour or so. Further, I had difficulty disengaging the rear wheels, and the front wheels are positioned so far ahead of the blade,... read full review »

I love this mower! I am a long time Craftsman supporter and this new mower is another in long line of great Craftsman mowers I have owned. This is my first time with a key start, and although I was reluctant, I will never go back. Even the drive control is improved and I was very happy with it from previous models. More power, easy start and a great cut...what more could I ask for. I do love this mower!

Pros: I love it! Cons: oil filler cap/stick has an annoying way of coming loss and off which then results in the mower shooting oil all over the place. Sears needs to make this thing tighten more securely!

I run a lawn service company, I purchased 1 of the hi vacs from sears just to see how it would perform  cause it was much cheaper than the usual Hondas & Toros that i currently use.  I put it into service the next day  and the guys on my crew wanted to use the hi vac alot more than the Toros, I kept on getting positive remarks from my employees.  That  within 2 weeks of the lawnmower mowing over 100 lawns and still going strong I went down to my local sears store and bought 1 more.  This lawnmower in my opinion is great at mulching and especially bagging  it is awsome.  Please if you buy...

This mower has an excellent "feel", and as a result improves the overall mowing experience.  Compared to my older Craftsman (similar engine front drive rear bagger - I've had many Craftsman self-propelled mowers), this one feels like a Lexus (as compared to, say, a basic pickup truck).  I believe this is due to a combination of factors - the soft grip angled handle, softer & larger rubbery tires, rear drive (my front yard is slightly sloped and I had to push the front drive along somewhat), smooth engine, balanced weight distribution, rear drive, and improved silencer / better sound. ...
