Okay, so the old opener was installed be my stepson's girlfriends uncle. Anyone else see a problem yet? The opener was installed, wait for it, INCORRECTLY, and without directions. It was "NEW" if you don't count the 8 to 10 years it sat on the floor at the uncle's house. But hey, it was free. That worked... read full review »

Purchased the new garage door opener about two years ago and 2 out of the 3 remotes don't work at all even with new batteries and yes pressing the learn button on the system was pressed.  The one that works is very spotty as well.  Need to tap it on the dashboard a few times before it works.  Not...

works, but.......

This works fine, but it has a very limited range. I almost have to get up to the door before it opens.

Behold! The power of anti-gravity in your bare hands! A simple push of a button magically opens even the most sternly closed garage doors! No more need for easily forgotten secret passwords, easily lost crystal keys, or battling fuirious trolls to gain entry into your car's storage area! Even the most destructive thunderstorms won't keep you from exiting your carriage in a warm, and safe area.

Of course getting from your garage to the house will be your sole responsibility. Because while you won't find a more awesome garage door opener anywhere, it simply won't protect you from the assorted villains,...

Easy to Program

We recently moved and only one garage door opener was provided for the two car garage and our two car family.  I was relieved to see it was a Craftsman opener so we headed to Sears and found the exact opener we needed quickly.  It took less than a minute to program the new remote and I tested to make sure the other remote still worked and it did.  It's so nice not to have to keep switching remotes and it was such an easy fix!

I needed to purchase the 3 function remote as a replacement that was lost.  The packaging couldn't make it any easier to figure which was the correct one.  It says if you have the purple learn button.  I know that sounds quite simplistic, but that is the way it ought to be.  Having to cross reference model numbers and serial numbers can be a pain to find sometime.  The instructions are just as simple, press the learn button and press the remote button, and your done!

Very poor quality.

The Craftsman garage remotes have a serious design flaw, casuing the buttons to cease functioning after only a few months of use. Two of our 4 original remotes stopped working altogether, and a third is on it's way out (numerous presses to get it to actally work). This is NOT a battery issue. I believe that there may be a version of a competitor's product (Liftmaster) that could be compatible. I've ordered two of these from ******, and will post another review with the details if it works out well. I don't want to give the model number until I confirm compatibility.

From what I can tell looking...

Lousy

It's very hard to open the darned thing to replace the battery (bet you can't find the manual online).  The battery does not last very long, and it's expensive.  The manual says the battery should last 5 years - maybe it does, if you never use it, and keep it in the fridge.  About nine months (used maybe 6 times a week) is closer to normal for us.  Toward the end of battery life the remote operates intermittently (that may account for problems other people report).  Lastly the remote control itself is absurdly expensive (they probably cost Sears about $2 to manufacture).

I just spent a great deal of time programmng this garage door opener because the directions on the back of the opener unit are wrong.  I tried to find instructions somewhere on this website and found that there are none.  Numerous products have owner manuals and use information on line. I normally don't read all of the comments on a product, but fortunately did so for this product.  The correct directions were in another comment.  Finding the correct directions shouldn't be this difficult for a product as simple as a garage door opener.

Barely works

This was unfortunately the only compatible remote control for the garage door opener that I had purchased. I had already read poor reviews on this product, but had no choice, so I purchased it. It is as lousy as the reviews had said. I usually have to press the remote 10 times before the garage door opens. I also have to be less than a few feet away from the door. I am very disappointed in this product.

Programing The Remote

I bought a remote exactly like the one I already have and followed the directions that came with the remote. They were different than the directions that are on the back of the unit. Push and release the purple button on the unit, and the light will come on steady. then push the button on the remote and hold it down. When the light on the unit blinks, let go of the remote button. That's all you do. The whole task took me about 15 seconds. Very pleased.

Watch your directions

While re-programming one of my remotes, I followed the instructions on the back of the unit. They didn't work. I found the opener's manual on line, the directions are different and they did the trick. If you are having difficulty, try this. Push the "learn" button on the receiver, but don't hold it down. While the indicator light is lit, push the transmitter button. The main lights will blink and you're done.
