Craftsman Rotary Lawn Mower 700 Series Briggs & Stratton Engine Model 917.374352 —

Replaced an 11 year old plain old Craftsman mulcher with what I thought would be an easier tool-WRONG!! This is by far the poorest purchase I ever made.  Whoever has positive reviews for this lawn mower must be smoking something.  From the first use (6 cuttings ago)  it would not mulch.  The design is pit-I-ful.  It clumps up and stops if your grass is too long, and you have to raise the wheels to the point of not cutting anything before it stops.  What a horrible design!!  Its going back.....Stay away.

i'm having exactly the same problem! i'm so glad to read these two critical reviews, as this is yet another critical review. after the first usage, i had to stop what i was doing and clear the underside of clumps before i could continue on. and i do mean it was clogged up to the point that stopped the blade. when i placed it on its side to remove the clumps, it wouldn't start. after trying 7 pulls i finally got it re-started. because of the inconvenience, i'll finish the job at hand, use it for up to 30 days, then return this BAD boy...just because of the inconvenience of buying a lousy excuse of a platinum series lawn mower. salesperson wasn't helpful either.

I agree. I bought the same model last year (end of the season) and didn't use it until this spring and I am not happy about it. I have used it 4-5 times. It is the worst purchase I have ever made. I went to the store where I bought it and was told that there has been no complaint about this model and they can't replace it. I was told that I have to take it to the Sears Service place. I took it to the Sears Service Department and explained the problem. The service person didn't seem too interested in listening to my complaint. I picked it up a month later and the same problem. It keeps getting clumps up in the corner and stops the blade. I am an engineer and consider this design a poor design. Unless Sears does something about this (replace it), I am not going to buy a single Sears product anymore (I have been buying Sears product for many years).
