Usually a tool like this that I buy for very occasional use I'll buy from **************, but I really am happy to have spent ( a little ) extra money on this. Putting it together, the individual parts feel of high qualtiy. I'm not sure that the variable speed is a feature that will get much use,... read full review »

IT DOESNT WORK.

I ordered this for myself. I was told to pick out a christmas present and order it LOL.. I got the item about week before christmas and opened christmas day. When i plugged it in. NOTHING!!! The motor tries to turn but other than that. Nothing at all. I am so disappointed in craftsman. It seems lately... read full review »

Glad I picked this up

This is the bench grinder for the weekend warrior of DIY projects.  It's surprisingly powerful for its size and I was very pleased with the results of the various things that I've sharpened with it ranging from reclaiming some very old chisels to my hedge clippers and even my lawn mower blades.  This hopefully will last me a very long time because I've been extremely pleased with the results that I've gotten from this bench grinder.

If you're a weekender like I am, this is a welcome addition to your shop for all your necessary projects.

Makes dull task fun again

I spent over an hour cleaning rust off tools after setting the bench grinder up!

The variable speed feature is cool and the weight of the unit makes it wery solid even before I mounted it to the bench top.  The grinding wheels and brushes are very easy to change out and the flexible lamp is very helpful.  I would strongly recommend the Bench Grinder.

6" Variable Bench Grinder

I picked up the grinder at my local Sears store. All the parts were there, the paint was good and assembly was easy. I used a 40 watt (=75 watt, indoor R20 flood) halogen bulb from Home Depot. My only complaint is that the tool rests are not perpendicular to the plane of the wheels. I guess I can either bend the brackets or shim them.

This item was ok. Not really impressed though. Could be better guides on it for standard grinding like chisels, planes, axes etc. I would bolt this to the table as it does wobble a bit. Needs better guides.

6"Variable-speed grinder

I bought this grinder on sale, and took it home and put it to use immediately. It is heavy enough to stay put on your workbench without anchoring it, but I am going to buy the pedestal, so I have more room on my bench. The variable-speed function works very well, and it has very little vibration, even at high speeds. The water tray on the front is pretty flimsy, so I would recommend putting a small piece of wood under it to support it. It lacks about 1/4" of sitting flush, so you need to shim it up. The brass wire wheel that come with it is pretty mediocre, so I would recommend a higher-quality... read full review »

I was concearned this grinding wheel would be under powered.NOPE!It's really tough. And you dont have to mount it.It can be mounted but it has 4 rubber feet on it that hold the fairly heavy(30lbs.?)in place. So I can just carry it to where ever I need it,and it doesn't move at all.I am VERY happy with it!No more grinding wheel slowing down fast while useing it.This one has great power for eveyday use around the house and garage!

I took a hammer head and pushed it against the grinding wheel and it barely slowed it down.Variable speed comes in handy while sharpening knifes and such.I dont think...

Bench Grinder

I bought this bench grinder in June of 07. I am very pleased with it. A good grinder for the money. As we know, the assembly instructions are poor, but just look at the pictures and it takes about a half hour to complete. Anyone who wants a grinder will be able to assembly it. As a personal choice, I put on a 36 grit wheel. The grinder is stable as is. It is not mounted. It does not move around when grinding. It runs quiet when not grinding. I brush and sharpen mower blades, axes, various hand tools and stuff around the house. I recommend this bench grinder for home use. Joe.

6in variable speed bench grinder

I am extremely pleased with this tool. It came very well packaged, with all the parts and accessories, no damage, and with well written instructions. I admit, I did put a much brighter light bulb in it, but it was one of those inexpensive compact florescent spiral types from the local home improvement store, so I don't think I have to worry that it will melt the housing or wiring. I have dozens and dozens of hours of using it while restoring a sport motorcycle. It has worked flawlessly, and I am sure it will continue to.

Great Grinder for any price

I bought this grinder on sale last Saturday and it has already paid for itself. I sharpened two sets of blades for my lawn tractor. Then used the brush to clean up some antique rusty tools that now look almost new. I then replaced the brush wheel with a buffing wheel and my wife used it to polish her polymer clay fired beads. The variable speeds make it a great tool for every use. This is a great small shop grinder, definitely CRAFTSMAN QUALITY. The only thing that I didn't like was the cheesy wheel dressing tool but I am extremely satisfied with the grinder. If there was no dressing tool there... read full review »

Good value but low on power

Bought this variable speed grinder 2 weeks ago and converted it to a buffing machine so I could use the lower speeds to buff plastic parts. So far it has worked very well except it is somewhat low on horsepower and bogs down with moderate pressures. Other than that it works like a charm!

Great value

I bought this for light duty home projects and it has exceeded my expectations. The variable speed control and the work light are nice features on a low cost grinder. I recommend this grinder for any light or medium duty home projects.
