“Easy Rider”
The Craftsman YT 3000 21 HP 42" Yard Tractor is a terrific machine.
I really love this mower. Moved up from a 15.5hp Craftsman that lasted me 13 years and the performance difference is like day and night.
Hit me all of a sudden, my old mower bit the dust and I was told it would cost $450 to repair. As old as it was I decided it was smarter to spend that money on a new one instead. Did alot of research and driving around in one week, and found this one at a small Sears shop in Hadley, Ma. on rte 9. Really nice couple work there. This mower had one week use on it and I was told the owner brought it back to upgrade to the next model up. Got this on for under $1,100, about $700 off MSRP and $300 off the sale price. Figured it was a bargain and worth a shot.
The only complaints I have is that the seat is really slippery, and when going up and down slopes there is a drastic difference in speed with the Hydrostatic transmission as compared to my old 6 speed manual transmission which pretty much maintaned it's speed much better. Fortunately, I only have one small portion of my lawn that is sloped to any great degree, so it's fine for the most part.
Other than that, I lover the way it cuts, no getting bogged down in the thick grass, especially when I let the lawn go to long before cutting, and it is a beautiful even cut. I adjusted the tire weight and the gauge wheels and it rides flawlessly over the lawn with no gouging, even when I hit those holes in the yard. It could be a little higher on it's cutting height though, putting it on 4 is a tight close cut to me, I usually cut on 5 or six, but I like that plush lawn look.
It is also sharp looking, the kids call it the Spiderman Mower. Just take a look at it from the front. Maybe I'll paint some webs on it.
