This item was purchased as after the other name brand stick and traditional jar blenders in the kitchen quit (after just a couple years use). What a difference smart design makes! I should have expected as much, as my Mom's Cuisinart food processor is nearly as old as I am and running well - STILL. The stainless steel finish and detachable handle/motor assembly make for really safe and easy cleaning. No more fears of accidentally getting water in the motor near the on/off button, or choosing the less dangerous option of just mopping up egg spatters w/a damp towel to avoid accidental electrocution and/or immersion. The chopping blade of the grinder attachment also breaks down completely to allow all food bits be removed during cleaning. The jar of the grinder attachment is thicker plastic than most, very sturdy, without silly little tabs that break easily. The motor, strong enough to crush ice, nuts, coffee beans, etc gets the job done quickly (and without overheating). Changing from one attachment to the next mid-recipe is also very easy (push the release button and click the motor into the next attachment), giving my partner all sorts of creativity in cooking. As an apartment dweller with tiny counters and little storage, we really appreciate the space savings, as this entire blender fits into a drawer or sits easily on a shelf. Now I can get rid of my mini-food chopper (single function, smaller container, not worth the cupboard space) too.
