I'm familiar with the DW788 and have always thought them to be a good investment for a scrollsaw. However, now that they are made in Taiwan & China I find that the quality has been reduced. The blade hole doesn't match up properly but after alittle use and a couple of blades the hole is open enough...

I received a Dremel Scroll Saw for Christmas one year and after a year of long and intense session's of Scroll Saw Fretwork, the Dremel decided to shut down on me. I needed a professional saw that could handle hours upon hours of detailed cutting. I did not want another scroll saw that failed to survive the demand of constant pressure on the motor and other moving components.
I came across an advertisement that offered a DeWalt 20" DW788. After reading the specifications on this model and noticing that the design looked aggressive and well planned out, I figured I had to own one.

read full review »I have had a couple of scrollsaws before this one, but this one is the best. The blade changes are fast and easy. Once you get use to the saw and the blade tension it is a dream for a good wood worker. However, I would not recommend this to a person just starting out on a scroll saw, this is for people with experience. It has a very fine cut and you need to know what you are doing. I don't think there is a better saw on the market right now.
