The one star review that wrote that the charger was DOA was way off!! The reviewer did not bother to look at the manual or use common sense. Connect the cables to the battery and then plug the charger to the wall outlet, like the manual states. If the charger is plugged in first, it turns on and tries to charge nothing and the light comes on that the battery is fully charged. All that was needed to fix the problem was to unplug the 120v supply and plug it back in. The only issue I have with the charger is the meter. It is okay but could have been digital display. Other than that...
read full review »bought it for a gift and it has been wonderful. Not a cheaply made product. Very sturdy and has worked perfectly each time we needed it.
I've had this charger for several months and I've used both all three amp settings.
2A works fine in charging my 12volt automobile battery slowy
10A does a good job in charging my 12 volt automobile battery quickly
50A works well for a partially drained battery.
Should replace the display meter with a digital meter for a more accurate reading. It was difficult to determine whether the battery was fully charged.
The charger worked fine for about two weeks while I worked on other projects. It's relatively small and can be left in my truck's engine compartment. I would recommend this charger as a good all around charger. I think the 50 amp starting charge would be a bit weak for my starting applications though. As a battery maintainer its great and to fast charge a low battery its very good also.
I deploy a lot, and sometimes when I come home my car battery needs to be charged because I do not have a long commute to work for the alternator to really do a good charge of the battery. This little wonder has saved me twice so far both for my car and for my wife's car. Should be a garage staple for everyone!
My wifes car began a bizarre campaign of not holding a charge in a new battery and I bought this charger to help until the problem was found. Now I think this is one of the best home emergency tools I own.
Turns out in the case above the electronic door lock button was sticking in a depressed position which could not be detected by the average eye. In less than a day and a half the battery would go dead.
Now that I have owned this charger for a while and used it in all the modes available on the charger switch I must give it a high mark. The charger has consistently charged any battery overnight...
read full review »I left my lights on overnight and work up to a dead car. I walked to Sears and bought this. I hooked it up and set it to the 10 amp setting for twenty minutes and then disconected it and started up the car. I drove the car into the garage and left it charging for another 6 or so hours. I am very pleased. The only complaint is the instructions are not clear to people who don't know about cars. How am I supposed to know if my battery is low maintenance or maintenance free or deep cycle? I just guessed maintenance free and it worked so... I would have to say I am very satisfied.
I bought one of these and hooked it up to an old tractor battery that had been sitting outside for a long time. The battery was a goner but this put a little life back in it. You don't have to pay a lot of attention to it because it is automatic. They are supposed to be able to be used to jump start but they take way too long. I recommend buying one of the portable power jump starters for jump starting batteries.
First one I bought died in 3 years. The second one I bought only lasted 1 month. The third went 1 year before dying.... I guess they aren't the same quality they were 10 years ago!
Bottom line - Buy a different charger if you want it to last!
I do agree with the others who say the charge meter is not accurate. That is sort of frustrating. You can't really be certain of the charge level. Mostly I just use it to juice up a dead or nearly dead car battery to the point where I can start it. This does seem to be able to accomplish that given enough time. The 50 amp start engine setting seems worthless. Can't start anything I own.
I remember a version of this from my youth and this is a worthy replacement. Works quietly, quickly and without worry.
