The buttons are easy to understand and use. The cables have been long enough for my needs.  I haven't used an external voltmeter to confirn or deny what others have written.

I have mainly used this for charging my Deep Cycle Marine battery I use while camping.  The battery powers an inverter I...

I purchased this unit used from a Craigslist ad in the San Diego, CA area. My experiences with this charger are in line with what other posters have experienced. This unit does indeed need a "babysitter." If you are looking for a "hook it up and leave" type of charger, this is NOT your baby! My experiences... read full review »

DieHard Microprocessor - Controlled Battery... Reviews

good unit..

My wife bought a small 12v battery for a lawn tractor at her parents house.  It sat around a good while with no charge.  When I finally got it, my voltmeter showed like 0.5 volts.  Since a regular 12 volt lead acid battery is considered completely empty at like 12.2 volts or something like that, Im thinking this battery is shorted dead and ruined.

Bought this charger after reading the reviews here and such.

This is my first large battery charger. I like the microprocessor feature.

Hooked up the battery to the charger.  After testing the battery, it went to de-suflizer mode first and then...

Borrowed my neighbors battery charger when I thought my battery was dead because my trickle charger could not put a charge back into it after two days. After about an hour I looked at the battery charger and it showed the battery at 70% charge.Reset charger for another thirty minutes and was able to crank my outboard with no problems. Decided I needed my own so went to Sears and purchased my own.

I bought this microprocessor-controlled charger / starter for my husband's birthday knowing that we were going to try and re-start a classic car that we'd had garaged for four years. Even a DieHard battery didn't want to start after four years, but this charger has a desulfation mode that overcame the problem. We then completed charging and utilized the engine starting mode, which waits until the engine is actually being cranked before delivering 125 amps for engine start. The microprocessor tells you when to crank and how long to wait before trying again. The engine started on the second attempt...

I purchased this at a local Sears Hometown store in desparation when the sustained -30 temperatures helped zap the charge out of the battery in my 4 cylinder '05 Mariner. I hoped, but didn't expect the battery to come back from the dead completely but gave it a shot.

I let the charger charge until it shut off and tried starting the car with no luck. It had gone from a click to a few revs and nothing. I tried letting it charge overnight and got the same result.

I then decided to try the jump start function, but was disappointed with similar results. I would have thought a charger with a jump start...

I have used this charger for a Year now with the following comments:

When it works it is great BUT:

Several times I have been charging for hours and the battery % hasn't moved. You unplug it and plug it back in and the % changes...the battery was reading at 65%, now you're at 70% do it again and it reads 45%. or;

I once charged a battery overnight, came out in the morning and it is flashing "bad",  with no time to charge the battery before the fishing tournament begins . By 10am trolling motor juice is gone and so is my chance at winning.

When the bad is flashing unplug it, plug it back...

Didn't Last

Used maybe 5 times over a year and doesn't work anymore.

I bought at Kmart and lost the receipt so I can't return it.

Recommend you spend your money on a USA made product.

Intermittent operation

This unit worked well for several months, I use it to charge two deep cycle marine batteries during the winter months. I used it one season and now it charges for a short while then goes into a blinking/reset mode. I reset the machine and it says the batteries are at 70%. I charge awhile come back and the batteries are at 60 %.

Great charger that needs a babysitter.

There is an inherent problem with this battery charger. I have traded this charger out twice and they all have the same problem. The charger does the job, it just has to be checked on. It will NOT charge the battery completely without being reset once. i.e. I connect the charger to the battery and it reads the battery is at 40%, it will charge the battery at 13.5 volts to about 68-70% and will not go beyond that. I have it set at AGM and 12A. If you check the voltage again, it will now show it is charging at 14.7 volts or more on the 12A setting after it reaches 68-70%. It has increased the voltage... read full review »

after a year of use

I figured I'd write a review after a year of service. It works when it wants to. When you start charging, everything is working well...then you notice it have been charging for hours and the % hasn't moved. You unplug it and plug it back in and the % drops...you were at 70%, now you're at 61%. Or you charge a batter overnight, you come out in the morning and it is flashing. You just wasted 8 hours of charge time. borrowed my brothers old mechanical charger and charged all 8 batteries in 1 day.

Just amazing!

Just amazing! Simple, lightweight, convenient. Takes guesswork out of your life. Plug it in, select battery type and how fast you need it to be done and when come back your battery is conditioned to 100% The small minus is the cable management system on the back - retention legs keep falling off but this is very minor and should not stop you from considering this product !Too bad I can not find a larger brother of this thing. It seems that Sears has removed it from their website. Would love to read reviews about larger unit. Thank you Sears for amazing product, do not give up on quality keep up... read full review »

Handy charger

This one is great ! Easily handled, light weight and powerful. Hook up and choose your settings that are clearly explained in the booklet. This one is for home use, I'm going back for another one to keep at work.

5 stars

YEA HAW Jump starts every piece of equipment on my farm from combines to dump trucks. It works just as good as the big guys, I highly recommend it, and personally think that theirs not a better charger on the market better.

Sears 80 Amp charger

I like the charger. It's easy to use and is automatic. The fan bearing has failed and makes lots of noise until I smack it to stop the nose. Need to find my receipt and take it back.
