Happy Camper

I love this thing! It works very well ! Before buying I had read the other, generally negative reviews , so I was pleasantly surprised when it greatly exceeded my expectations. I take it tent camping and have used it to run 12v coffee maker , dvd player , laptop , air pump, and satellite radio. I once... read full review »

Most Helpful Critical Review

We are full time RVers. We bought this product in Aug of 2010 from Sears and followed chargng instructions to the letter. We need it to jump our tow vehicle. It is now April of 2011 and we are traveling cross country. We used it once. The charger first charged up to 100% but now it won't go above 98%....

DieHard Portable Power 950 with 12 Volt Outlets... Reviews

Displaying reviews 1 - 13 of 20 in total

Bought the DieHard Portable Power 950 to power camping accessories and for the occasional jump-start. Worked okay for the first several months, then would discharge very rapidly (for example, the light would go dim after only 30 minutes). Within the first year, it would no longer charge past 65%, despite my carefully charging it after every use and avoiding deep discharges. I bought the unit for well above what the competing units cost, believing the float charge feature would give it long life, but it actually failed faster than cheapy no-name wall-wart-charger power packs I previously owned....

Works very well...When it was (New)

it worked perfect when it was new it charged to 100% in little time. (But) it does not hold a charge for more than a few weeks, had to check the % of charge, and recharge it. (And) like all rechargeable devices it will only except a limited amount of charges. i have had this unit for little over a year, and now it will not except a charge. (Update) the New Model for 2009 has a removable Battery for the reason mine doesn't work anymore.

Keep your receipt

Mine lasted about a year (used for 3 car battery charges). Worked fine for those charges, but now it's uncharged, and can't be recharged. After two days of trying to recharge it, it hasn't held any charge. The instructions say it may take 3 days, but after 2 days, it should be above 0. Yes, the numeral light is on, so I know it's hooked to a working outlet. The light above the digital display no longer works either.

defective batteries

The first unit I purchased had a bad battery. Would not charge above 15%. I exchanged it for another unit that charged to 100%. After two hours it dropped to 90%. A small 140 watt inverter quickly drained the battery to 50% with only a small fan plugged in. I returned the unit for a refund. Will try another brand.

Sadly disappointed

I have always purchsed my automotive tools and supplies from Sears, and always have been very pleased. This purchase, was a total flop! I have tried to jump start 5 different cars with this unit, and not one of them worked. Sad, Sad.....

Too smart for it's own good

It is easily confused by connection to non-car batteries or any other jump use that fools the fancy sense wire and microprocessor. Stick with the standard units that don't try to be clever and end up outsmarting themselves.

Jump Starter and DC power source

I highly recommend this Jump Starter and DC power source. I have had it four months, and it holds a charge so that it is always ready for use. I like the dual lamps and dual 12V DC power outlets on the front. The outlets are live all the time, and provide 15A with automatic circuit breaker. The jumper cables are sufficiently long enough at 24 inches, to be useful. I have used the unit a couple of times already to jump start a vehicle, and it did the job amazingly well. It is really convenient to just open the hood, connect the booster jumper cables, and have your car start right up! It has a nice... read full review »

DieHard Portable Power 950

lacking something

I bought this starter unit and plugged it in. It charged in a short time to 100%. I bought it with the idea of using it to power an inverter. I found that it has no raw power. It must be jumped over a partually dischrged battery or it doesn't work at all. It would be a much better and more practical unit if it had a power switch instead of the fancy circuitry. If someone would steal your battery and you had this unit, it woyuld be worthless for starting your car. Will not power an inverter. I'm sure it would perform well if just used for jump starting.

Very dissapointed in this product

Bought this charger on a Sunday afternoon and began charging it right away willing to give this unit a full 72 hours to charge, after 24 hours it was at 12% after 48 hours13% the best it would charge to was 73% after 3 days.Iwill be returning this product,

Portable and Powerful

My problem ~ maintaining a rare convertible that I hardly ever drive. The fact that it gets little use causes its battery to discharge over time. My usual remedy, when I do have somewhere to go, is to pull/push the vehicle out of the garage, and have a neighbor pull along side to jump start it. This powerful 950 saves me the trouble. It enables me, with very little effort, to immediately start the car, even when the battery has done a Lazarus! Easy to use. Recharges in home using a standard wall outlet. There's even an accessory you can purchase called a male-to-male cable (item # 38-99-000834),... read full review »

This unit works when fully charged, but then won't hold a charge more than a few days when stored.  It makes a horrible high pitched noise until it finally charges again - anybody know how to make it stop the noise.

Junk

Not happy at all, nothing but trouble. Wouldn't charge right, display finally shows 100% charge go to use it for a dead battery, nothing. Owned for 18 months, used 5 times. Waste of money.
