Blinking red "normal" light

It's been a week and I haven't received one response to my dishwasher's blinking light problem. I replaced the two door switches since that seems to be a common problem but that did not help. I've tried the reset suggestions that many have offered for the blinking green light problem and was excited to see all the lights come on but it was followed by only a five minute wash and then the  red normal light started blinking again. The machine is two and a half years old. Sears wants $129 for a service call. Then I would probably need a control panel or something and I figure my bill would top $250 by the time they're done with me. Does anyone think I should get a new dishwasher that has a warranty rather than sink more money into the relatively new one that I have? Model #665.16034402

How old did you say the dishwasher is? Also, keep in mind that the $129 covers all labor involved with the repair, should you have it fixed. And, finally, if you do decide to have a technician check it out and you decide it's not worth fixing, they can give you some coupons towards the purchase of a new dishwasher to help offset the cost of the visit.

If you want further information, you may want to send terryf a private message. Or, if you want Sears customer service, you may want to send SearsCares a private message.

Good luck!

Hi BlueCrewGuy, The dishwasher was bought new in March 2006. Do you have any idea what might be the problem with it? Thanks for your suggestion. I guess the coupon offer would make a repair visit more palatable. It just seems that if there was a solution I would have heard of it by now.

I'm afraid I don't know what could be wrong (I'm a store associate, not a technician), but there are some Sears technicians who frequent this site, and one of them might be able to offer more information.

Most likely a stuck button on the keypad, which is part of the console. Repair or replace is your decision -- I'd probably have it repaired...

Thanks for that answer StephenC. It sounds not too serious. Have you come across this before?

Yes, if you find the tech sheet behind the toe panel, it should confirm the blinking light diagnosis (I find the tech sheet is missing a lot of times).

My tech sheet is missing. Is a stuck button something that is easy to fix or does it require replacing a part? I could probably do it if I knew what to do. I guess that's why there are repair men but I am handy sometimes. Thank you.

I consulted with our Sears product expert team. They suggest turning off the power to the dishwasher (switch off breaker) for 3 - 5 minutes. If the blinking light is still on after power is restored, then it is most likely a problem with your control board. This is probably going to require a service call to fix. Hope this helps!

I tried switching off the breaker and the light still blinks so, according to your contact, the problem is most likely with the control board. On the parts list there is a "control, electronic" part #8564546 for $95.66. Is that the part they are referring to? Also there is a fuse, part #8193762 for $19.14. Could that be where the problem is? Thank you.

I still recommend that a technician come out before you purchase parts to confirm that this is the issue. If you want to consult with a parts specialist, you can call 1-800-4-MYHOME.

Nope

No again

Thank you.

You want the Console Assembly, which includes the active overlay insert, if you are wanting to attempt this yourself...

OR

If you call 1-800-4-MY-Home, you can be sure your diagnoses is correct, and the part and labor will be guaranteed.
