For the life of me, I can't find a decent review of this model.  There's one single review on the Sears site, and it isn't helpful.  I like the looks and some of the featuures, but I am having serious reservations about getting an item like this without any sort of review.  I checked CR, and it isn't listed.  Is there anything anyone can do to help?

Hi

We purchased one in may 09, and it was the cleanest our dishes have been.  We have teen age kids that never clean off their dishes and even after sitting on the counter for a coulpe of days, the dishes came out clean.  They told us it was very quiet, but it really wasn't.  It was aout the same as all the other dish washers we have owned.

Now for the bad news 3 weeks after it was installed it broke.  Maytag sent out a repair person the next day.  He ordered the new part and told us it would be here in a week.  A week later Maytag called me and told me that the part was on back order and would not arrive until Sep or Oct.  So they replaced the dishwasher at no cost.  The new dishwasher is doing great.

I have had a Maytag MDB-5 since 2004.  It is the WORST dishwasher (that's a laugh) I have ever purchased.  It has never cleaned properly nor has it ever cleaned silverware without leaving crud on them.  It says just scrape, but if I did just that all the dried food would still be on everything.  I've owned Kitchen Chef, Kitchen Aide, and G.E.  All were exceptional machines that didn't cost a lot and lasted at least 15 years.  I plan to replace this piece of junk with a Kenmore.  At its worse it has to be 100% better than a Maytag.

You can't compare a 2004 Maytag with a Maytag from today, as they're entirely different products. The 2004 model was manufactured by Maytag when it was still an independent company. The Maytag from today is designed, engineered, and manufactured by Whirlpool (the leading American-style dishwasher manufacturer). The quality of all Maytag products increased drastically once old Maytag designs were discarded and Whirlpool's engineers and designers took over. You can buy Maytag products with confidence that they're some of the best (and best priced, if you check out their new dishwashers) machines on the market.

I bought this dishwasher a couple of weeks ago. It seems to work fine, except that during the dry cycle, a couple drops of water form on the vent located on the outside, upper left of the machine. I called Maytag customer service about this. They tell me that a few drops of water is normal - the rep said that 'that is the way the energy star machines are made now' and that if it got worse, to call again and they'd send someone out. Has anyone else with this dishwasher experienced this problem? I've never had this issue with any other dishwasher, Energy Star or otherwise. It's not a leak - it appears to be just condensation from heavy steam, but it irks the heck out me since it's a brand new unit.

I commented about this on your separate thread. But, for those who may not see it, pretty much any dishwasher with the same kind of drying system can and, probably, will experience a tiny bit of condensation on the vents. This is normal, but will not affect performance, cosmetics, or durability. Older dishwashers heated to higher temperatures, reducing the possibility of condensation.

i have a Maytag and it is 2 years old and just stop working.  Tried to reset the breaker.  That didn't help.  Tried to play with the latch, worked for a while then stopped again.  Now it is dead.  Anyone else have any ideas???

I'm having the exact same problem.  No power... then power for a couple days... now its completely dead!  I've scoured the internet trying to figure out what is wrong with it and I can't figure it out.  Also can't find anyone with parts for it.  ANY IDEAS would be most helpful.  I tried calling maytag but they didn't have anyone who could help me.

tberd & dizzyland: First thing to check would be for a loose wire nut in the connection box behind the toe panel (open the ciruit breaker first). Other possiblilities include a door switch (latch) or touchpad issue.

Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME for service. Parts are available via searspartsdirect.com

Thanks for the quick reply!  Well, it wasn't lose wiring because I disconnected and reconnected everything and it still has no power.  I tested the power as well on the lead coming from the wall and the unit is getting power from the cable.  I just came home from the hardware store with a multimeter and I'm having problems figuring out where and how to use it to test the various components for continuity.  I've been reading up online but can't find clear step by step instructions on how to do it.

In fact, I think all this research has just confused me more!  I keep reading about bad door latches (as you mentioned) being an issue with a lot of dishwashers but this one has the control panel hidden on the top so it is supposed to have power with the door open as well.  Seems like from what I read is that the latch switch is just supposed to power the unit down when the door is open but I could certainly be wrong.  Would a faulty latch switch cause a lack of power in dishwashers that are supposed to be operable (lights on control panel and such) with the door open?  Also, what's this about a thermal fuse that I keep reading about elsewhere?  Does this unit have one?  If so, I sure can't find it!  Sorry for so many questions... I'm a little lost!

And finally... I also wanted to let you know that i inspected all the wiring throughout and I don't see anything obviously wrong.  All the wires look perfect.  I also checked out the circuit board and I don't see any discoloration or burns of any kind.

Thanks again for your help with this.  I'm so sick of washing the dishes by hand!

I am assuming that yours is the same model as the original subject line for this thread. If I am wrong, please include the model/serial number of your dishwasher. It makes a lot of difference in the trouble-shooting.

I believe so.  The OP said mdb6759 and my model # is mdb6759aws... Which if I'm not mistaken just notates that its stainless steel.
