LockedShopping new dishwashers, help

posted on November 21, 2009 at 11:41AM Inappropriate?

I am shopping new dishwashers. I dont want the disposer. Glass and bones and bead don't go through them. I want the little cup in the bottom that collects the larger food particles and things that are not supposed to go through the motor, like the European brands. I also like the sieve floor on the barrel inside, instead of that round contraption with the slots to allow chunky food to build up against it, and it cant be removed easily to dump. I have teen agers, we scrape and load but dont rinse first.

Your pictures on your web sight show only the face of the dishwasher, and distance shots of the interiors. I need to see the bottom and whether the element is inclosed or exposed. All opinions are welcome. I have a few days before my kids start chucking the dirty dishes into the back yard.

Heh not to sound smart, but do you plan on putting glass, bones and beads into your dishwasher disposal system?   On a serious note though you might want to look at 13122, I think this is along the lines of what you're looking for.

What brand is 13122? We never plan on blowing up the engine of our dishwasher with glass or beads, but it has happened 3 times in 15 years. I see a trend. We do scrape, but things get missed.  I cut chuncky food anyway that doesn't fit through the bottom holes to the disposer. I have to reach in and find the scraps soggy and hidden in the back. I prefer this new style of a cup that catches those random scraps. The seive bottom should stop the broken glass from reaching the motor. My boys  went through the whole hot water tank hand washing the other night, not very energy efficient.

13122 is the white version of a Kenmore Elite dishwasher with UltraWashHE, a high-efficiency wash system that rates near the top of Consumer Reports' ratings, and is extremely quiet. It's also available in black, bisque, and stainless steel. It's one of the best and most popular dishwashers Sears carries. Definitely worth checking out at your nearest Sears store (it's stainless on the floor, and should be on one of the endcaps).

I recently purchased the Kenmore Elite 1312 and found it to be noisy.  If your kitchen has an open floor plan, I would not recommend it.  Also, the reviews on the machine is very mixed.  I'd go with a  Bosch.

If your machine was noisy, it was defective. The 1312X should have the same noise level as most Bosch machines.

We also in market for new dishasher. Almost purchased Kenmore Elite 13122 but read negative reviews. Very surprised. The wanted a Kitchen Aid but price on model continued to vary & always higher. Model asked for KDUDS40CVWH. Dealing with salesman is like shopping for used car. Believe will start to shop at different location.

I own a 13124.  It is quiet, the tub is enormous, it is quiet, and very good looking.  Did I mention it was quiet?  Not the least expensive one out there, but a quality machine, all the same.

Many times, people are more apt to right a negative review if something goes wrong.

PS - I have four kids and A LOT of dishes.

For some perspective on reviews, choose a brand of any product you like, and type that brand name along with "complaints" into google and see what comes up. If you believe what you see online is an accurate portrayal of quality, you'll never be able to buy anything ever again. :)

I'm going to buy the 13123 and wonder when the best time might be?  I started looking last week and it was on sale for $775, but now its $907.  Is it going to be back at the $775 price anytime soon?  black Friday?

I am in a similar situation.  Two kids, two adults, need large capacity dishwasher but only have standard space for it.  Currently have a GE brand maybe 7 years old and it is fine but I wonder is there such a thing as a larger capacity machine that fits in the 26 inches of width we have under the counter.  I got the current one from Sears based on Consumer Reports, and it is fine but the latest online info and reviews don't say much about capacity.  Are there new layouts inside that fit more dishes, or do drawer styles fit more dishes?  I am not concerned about having a disposer or super quiet, just fitting a whole day of dishes in at once.  Any ideas?  Don't want to spend $1000 either.  Is this a pipe dream?

I'm in the market right now. Looked at a 13123 tonight and almost bought it. Now the reviews are bothersome. I bought a whirlpool basic piece of junk 19 years ago for $175 and it's still running and cleaning well. The more I read the more confused I become. It seems the favorable reviews are on the mid size/price units. More angry customers on the high end???

The 13123 has the manual screen filter. Do I really need this? Also, will hard water clog the steam jets? Anyone?

So you're saying sears.com reviews are useless? Then whats the point of the review section of the site

Hello,

I too, just replaced a Whirlpool that was going strong, but it was antiquated and was getting loud.  I bought the 1312 in Bisque and it is the same size as any other dishwasher - outside.  Inside, it is cavernous!

I was going to stick with Whirlpool for two reasons - 1. the silverware rack was on the door, giving you much more floor space and 2. Brand recognition.  However, at least on this site, the Whirlpools were getting bad reviews.

After seeing this one at Sears, I was sold.  Again, like many other shippers, a little leary about the reviews.

I have this home now and ironically, it is manufactured by Whirlpool.  Even though the silverware basket is in the lower rack, I have at least 1/3 MORE ROOM for dishes.  This machine is a looker, nice Stainless tub, and is whisper quiet when operating.  It is now on the Website for $775 (which is what I bought it for).  A little high priced, but well worth the investment!

Check out the Whirlpool Gold Model 2800. It is the slightly more expensive version of the Whirlpool model that was rated "best buy" by Consumer Reports.  It does not have the "self cleaning" filter which we did want, and we wound up buying the top rated Kenmore 1374 (also made by Whirlpool).  The Whirlpool 2800 is also a much quieter machine than most, 53 db vs our 58.  We're told that the dishwashers with manual clean filters are quieter due to the lack of the "garbage disposal' device built in.  Most Bosch's are made that way, ie just the filter screen that you have to clean yourself and is why they are so quiet.  You might want to buy Consumer Reports 2010 Buying Guide in a book store, if you are not a subscriber. Pages 220 and 221 quickly tell you the ratings of the dishwashers and also whether they have a self cleaning filter or not.
