We have a 1hp Kenmore disposal right now.  How do we install a 3/4hp Kenmore to replace it?

The 3/4 HP unit may use the SAME locking sleeve mechanism, underneath the sink.

Hopefully, your old disposer "just plugs in" a switch half-outlet, like our disposer does.

Oh!

Disposers do NOT come with their own cord included (can be direct wired or need the separate plug-type cord kit).

They sell the cord kits, in the stores - by the... disposers.

How do you remove the plug on the side of the disposal before connecting the dishwasher drain line?

The owner's manual should have those details.

If you don't have a manual, you can use the long model number on the disposer data plate to down-load a manual from the Manage My Life.com site.

Question on the cord: I am replacing a non-working disposal with another brand. Will the cord from the old one be usable with the new one? In other words, is it a universal power cord?

If not, how do I know what kind of cord to purchase for the disposal I'm getting ready to buy? I'm buying online to send to my home in another state. I want to purchase the cord and have it sent as well for my manager to install. However, there's NO information in the product description to tell me 1) that I need one and 2) what to buy and 3)a link to bring me to the right place to even start looking (online). I don't want my manager to have to run to the store to get this cord.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Theres no way for us to know what your existing installation looks like or what model you have or what model you want to purchase.

That said,If you are going to buy a Kenmore or an Insinkerator disposer, and you want to plug it in with a wall cord, and you want to be sure you have what you need, then you need to order the Sears stock number 60686 cord.It will fit all Kenmore and Insinkerator models.None of the Kenmore or Insinkerator models come with a cord in the box (because many disposers are hard-wired).

I can't put a hyperlink here but if you go to Sears dot com and put 60686 in the search box it will show it to you.

Nor can I speak for the other brands, the above are the only brands I have sold.

What you need to mount the disposer to the sink comes in the box.To tell you what modifications are needed to your plumbing (if any) I would have to see your plumbing. You can see the instructions at  insinkerator.com.
