Our Amana dryer throws the braker and is now not staying on for more than 10 minutes before the braker is thrown. Is this dryer shot or does it just need a part?

Just bought a Maytag Cenntineal 7.4 dryer on Dec 26, 2009.  Very disappointed that when doing a load the heavier clothes are still damp and the lighter weight ones are dry.  Seems to take forever for the loads to dry as well.  Any advise?

The best advice is to stop drying mixed loads. The lighter garments dry faster, and when they get dry, they fool the sensor into thinking the entire load is dry. If everything in the load is of similar weight (all denim, or all sheets, or all socks/underwear/t-shirts), the load will be equally dry throughout, and the dryer will accurately detect the dryness of the entire load.

Edited to add: Washing mixed loads isn't good for your garments, either, as heavier fabrics can wear lighter fabrics. Like fabrics should be washed together, just as like colors should be washed together.

got anything on the throwing breaker?????

the problem could be the breaker, they go bad and can't handle the amperage draw. In most cases if there is a short in the Dryer it will trip the fuse or breaker as soon as the start button is pushed. If the time between starting and tripping the breaker varies the breaker is more likely to be what is bad.

Breakers aren't terribly expensive to replace, are they?

And, is this anything a DIY'r should even consider doing on their own?

generally not...though there are some very capable DIYers out there...

The breakers are pretty common hardware store parts, too.

When our dryer quit, it got really hot first, and then quit. It won't turn on. I suspect the heating element. Are these heating elements difficult or expensive, or both, to replace? Right now the clothes are out side hanging on the line.
