My old Kenmore was on its last leg so I started shopping for a new one online. I read a lot of reviews on many vacuums. I was debating between this one and the Bissel, which seems to have similar qualities and a lower price. After much debating, I chose the Dyson because the filter NEVER needs replacing and seemed like anyone who owned one had yet to complain about it, other than the price. :P
Though it's the best vacuum I ever owned, I rated it a "4" mostly because there are a few minor "downs" to it, at least for me: while it's lightweight and glides real well over any surface, it makes an awful noise (like the space shuttle about to take off) when I vacuum my rugs; while for the carpets or bare floors there is no problem at all.
I did have high expectations for it; I was imagining all my carpets magically return to their color again--LOL! yes I am a dreamer...
But it's a great vacuum, longer cord to reach all the way down the halls and more; lots of plus, like the dusting and low floor parts; easy emptying of the canister and NO MORE BAGS to change. On bare floors works great too. The only things I would change: #1 not all the parts store onboard, so you have to store them in a closet or drawer; #2 to use the extensions or to vacuum in corners one must unwrap the whole cord from the unit, hence having to re-wrap it all once done.
I rated it a "5"on durability, because I am hoping it will last me a real long time. :) I've had it for three months now. Overall a good vacuum; I wouldn't trade it for anything else! but wish the price was lot lower.
