I just purchased my first dyson slim. I am very pleased. I was looking at the animal dc17 only because I have a pet, but that model is much heavier and more in price. The slim has the same suction and you won't break your back lifting it, and boy does it pick up the hair. The only thing about the slim is I wish it came with more attachments. All in all ,100% yes to dyson!!
We just cleaned with our top of the line Kenmore Progressive $500 vacuum - you know, the one that has a little light that turns from red to green when your carpet is clean.
Then we went over the same room (combination hardwood and medium depth carpet) with this little Dyson. I was shocked at the dirt that the Progressive had left behind.
If this little Dyson can suck so well, I can't imagine what it's big brothers are capable of.
The weight is nominal, the handling superb and the features awesome. If you suck up something questionable - like an earring or coin - it is visible in the clear dust...

After three small sweeps of a section of my room, the vacuum picked up what I think was years of dust, sand, hair, dog fur, etc. that my old vacuums, including a water vacuum, could not clean.
Assembling the vacuum was pretty easy. Everything literally clicks together. I was able to assemble the vacuum straight out of the package within two minutes. (If you knew me, you would see that as a miracle). There's nothing really complicated about it.

Love this vacuum! Can't say enough great things about it. I have carpet in bedrooms, tile and hardwood floors with rugs in rest of the house, does an amazing job on all. I can't believe how much dirt it picked up. I also have two cats. I have someone help me clean every two weeks, uhm...I think her vacuum must be broken, it's the Kenmore Progresive (highest rating on Consumer Reports) There is no way it out preforms this DC18! And the Dyson is lighter and easier to handle.
I purchased my first Dyson this past Saturday. Originally, I planned on purchasing the Dyson All Floor Model currently on sale at $379 (regular price $399).
I informed the sales woman that I live in a studio. She asked if I had heard about the new Dyson Slim. I replied that I had and said I also knew the price is significantly higher than the model I was considering at $469.
I then asked the clerk if I could try the Slim. What impressed me the most is the maneuverability. The head of the vacuum bends (not quite turns). Second, is the look. It is small and less bulky compared to its counterpart(s)....

When I say it is the best vacuum we have ever owned, I say that never having owned a Dyson. This particular model fits our needs, and I like the look. I have sold these machines for a number of years, and demoed them many times at the store where I work. I don't know why I waited so long to pick one up, it picks up dirt that our old vacuum left behind, and not just a little bit.
It's versital, it's great looking, and it sucks like crazy!
What more can I say.
I think it was a bit of user error ordering this vacuum since I only have hardwood and tile floors. It's just too heavy for me to lug around, but when I tried it out, it PICKED UP EVERYTHING! Lucky the cats were outside!

I wish I would have bought this when it first came out!! This vaccum is so incredible, it makes my old carpet look brand new. It is so easy to use. It even picks out the dirt stuck inbetween the wood crevices on the hardwood floors!! This is the best money I have spent in years!!!
Highly recommend this vacuum. Air comes out clean. Easy to empty the container. Excellent for allergy sufferers. Owned an Oreck for five years and paid the cost of it almost twice over on pricey bags and belts that last a relatively short time. The Dyson Slim does the job better and is easier to manuever. Love the telescope attachment. Also, it's much quieter when compared to the painful-to-the-ears noise of the Oreck.
over 28 years of marriage we have purchased many vacumes and this one is by far the best. we have 2 inside dogs and live on a 12 acre hobby farm so you never know whats getting dragged in, but this product gets everything
Great Vacuum Cord is way too short the other dysons have longer cords, this one needs the same cord as the others.
we were looking for a vacuum that doesn't weight so much but will suck eveything & do it's job. the sales clerk informed us about dyson slim. when she brought it out and gave us a demonstation, she sold us! it doesn't even feel like it weights 15lbs and we love how it manuevers and it sucks all the dirt and dog hair really well. the only draw back is that the attachments are little confusing and there weren't many included.
we purchased our very first DYSON on April 6th and are very happy with it. compare to all other brands, you really can't beat the performance!
I bought our Dyson last weekend. We tested out all the Dysons. It was honestly hard to compare because they were all awesome. I was leaning towards the animal because of the attachments and suction, but the price was a lot higher. I bought the slim instead. I love it. It was easy to assemble and the suction is amazing. I wish it came with a few more attachments but the overall vaccum outweighs that.
