“Okay, Okay, I bought into the Dyson hype, but its good.”
Yes, I bought my Dyson DC25 Ball vac due to the hype, and actually a friend's recommendation. However, I have been very happy with it, and we have been using it for almost 4 months now several times a week.
We have 4 active kids, and so there is no shortage of dirt, dust, mudd, leaves, etc. entering the home. I used to have a graveyard for vacs in my basement. I have been able to pitch all of them and finally they are at peace and so are we.
The canister is a good size as is the overall machine. Like that the canister is clear so that you can always tell when its full or hasn't been emptied. You do need to empty it regularly, and you should check the filters. Word on the Internet is the vac will lose suction over time if the various filters are not maintained properly. This is not a problem. Good easy access, easy to empty or rinse, and replace.
Previous vacs had bags or canisters also with filters. My family killed them all as I was the only one whom would take the time to empty them and maintain the filters. Once the filters or bags were tested, the engines began to overheat and they degraded quickly.
The Dyson does detect if it starts to get a something wound around brush roller and disengages the roller brush. It has a button seperate from the power, so you can re-engage the brush roller once you have removed the obstruction.
The wand is nice, but a bit awkward for some uses. Again, given the suction power, and length of the extension, I can over look a few inconveniences.
Can't say enough about the manueverability of the ball. I could see some not getting used to it, but I think its great and ingenious. My friend complained that hers seemed heavy, and she attributed some of this to the powerful suction. I think this is countered by the ball.
