Eddie Bauer Tandem Stroller —
My first con would have to be Sears' lack of info on this product online & in store, though they do have a floor model in the store. I live in Brooklyn so my needs for a double stroller were: small (very important because I live in a cramped apartment), light-weight (as light as you can get for a double), and 1 hand or umbrella style folding (older child will stand, infant in 1 arm, fold stroller with other arm was my plan).
Well I could not find the weight of this stroller anywhere & believe me I'm a google master. I even called the manufacturer & they could not tell me. I bought it & it is much heavier than I would have liked (I live on the 2nd floor and often take public transportation so weight was pretty important to me). However I am going to overlook the weight issue because the stroller takes up very little space for a double. Being that I'm 5'2 I didn't want any of those monstrous car sized things I saw in most stores. How could I possibly get through doorways and down store aisles or crowded streets? Well this one is perfect for that & the fold is just slightly bigger than my Maclaren single stroller. That is 1 thing I love. You probably could even use a single stroller rain cover for it. There is a carry strap on the side also like my Maclaren. Back to the fold which is advertised as an umbrella fold, I quote-"The Eddie Bauer Transit Tandem stroller combines the lightweight and compact fold of an umbrella stroller with the ability to hold 2 children." Well that is not the case. It is in fact a 2 handed fold. The first part is an umbrella style pull up by the under-basket but then the 2nd step is pulling up the 2 latches (1 under each handlebar) and pushing in & down from both sides. It would be impossible to fold while holding a child. The extendable leg rests (1 in back too!) are great, my 18 month olds' legs don't even hang off. The side saddle bag is also great, its about the size of a small messenger bag, big enough to hold a can of formula & a few bottles or diapers, wipes, & a change of clothes. The under basket is not big, but big enough & also has zippered side access which I love for when the backseat is fully reclined. The back of the canopy has three mesh cup holders and a little mesh area big enough for holding a few toys and binkies or even a pack of wipes or some snack foods. And the handlebars rotate so you could always throw a diaper bag over them which is what I always did anyway (much easier access than having to dig into the basket) so I disagree with most people on the lack of storage. I do wish the backseat had full flat recline-it's probably better for 3/4 months +, but I will still be using it for my newborn-I will secure him up with a snuzzler & bundle me & he should be fine. I also wish the front seat was a little taller & partially reclined but I think my 18 month old will be ok. The fabric and colors are very nice and comfortable. The sun canopy does cover both seats but if the child in front is constantly leaning forward he will not be completely covered. Kiddopotamus makes extendable sun shades that cost about $15 if this is a major concern for you. The price of the stroller itself is very decent for a double with so many features, one of the cheapest I've found that is not subpar. Overall I'm happy with this stroller.
