I like the forgotten crafts books.

They explain how things used to be done, or are still done in less Industrialized areas of the world.

The Audel series of trades person books are awesome for learning about tools and techniques.

I have  (had, maybe??) a really old Audel book on refrigeration, and it is extremely well written and illustrated. The drawings in it look comical, though by today's standards
