Empire Pulse Power Auger —
I had this shower drain with a SERIOUS clog in it....water up to your ankles inside of 2 minutes serious. Based on the recommendations of others, I bought the Cobra 1/2 in x 50 ft drain snake. While I was in the store, I saw this power auger and figured it might make a nice thing to have for smaller clogs down the road, so I picked it up at the same time. When the 1/2 inch manual snake failed because I couldn't get it past the P-trap, I hooked this thing up to an 18V drill and it did the job. One bit of warning: the instructions state that this auger is designed to work at about 250-300 rpm. Mine required about 3 times that to get the job done, and with a shower drain, you're kind of working blind. Be careful, but seriously, IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Seems to me if it works even once, it has more than paid for itself, right?
