Just picked up this sweet little book Fancy Nancy for my five year old niece and she now prefers us to call her Nancy. This book is so well written and the illustration's are darling. My niece loves looking at the pictures and enjoys sitting in her bed turning the pages and reading the story from memory. (obviously not word by word, but best she can remember).
I honestly never saw this book when my children were growing up, but I sure wish I could have read it to them. I would recommends this book for any child.
I am a children's librarian and have made certain the Fancy Nancy books are on our shelves. There are picture books and "easy reader" books for those just learning to read. The illustrations are delightful as is the main character. She is someone little girls can relate to and understand.
As a teacher I am always keeping my eye out for a fun book to read to my 2nd graders. This book, Fancy Nancy, is so fun with all the fancy words and ideas. Even the boys in my class get a kick out of it. My favorite part of the book is the vocabulary and the use of synonyms. (I am alway trying to find ways to improve my students' writing and I often refer to Fancy Nancy for an example of creative writing.) The illustrations are also extremely entertaining. Anyone trying to find a book to get their child interested in reading, Fancy Nancy will do it.
Enjoy!
