Simple ergonomic improvement

Fellowes Standard Monitor Riser —

I use a dual-head video setup, with my laptop next to an external monitor and an extended desktop traversing both. For a long time, the laptop screen had been quite a bit lower. I eventually realized I was subtly tiring out my neck with the slightly out-of-whack angle. Of course, you could just put a few thick books or a box under your laptop, but this looks much better, allows a little storage underneath, and doesn't really cost too much. Plus it doesn't interfere with the laptop's cooling mechanism. The adjustability is nice, too. This is a very simple modular device that you assemble according to your needs. I was shocked at how difficult it was to find this monitor riser. I visited every office and electronics store I could think of, to no avail. I eventually gave up and ordered online. Sears.com had the best price among vendors with names I actually recognized. The only downside of the experience was that either Sears.com or UPS messed up my address. I got a postcard from UPS saying they could not deliver my package because my apartment number was missing from my address. However, in my online order confirmation, the full address was there, although the word "apartment" got moved to the end of line 1, and line 2 had only the actual digits. So perhaps it was a double error begun by Sears.com, and worsened by UPS. No way to be sure. But somewhere along the line, my address got partially scrambled, and I had to drive to the UPS warehouse to pick up the package myself, probably negating Sears.com's price advantage just from gas costs. I recommend the product, and I mostly recommend the Sears.com ordering/shipping experience, although the address thing was annoying. Also, it seems to me that even though this product undercuts the price of more "stylish" monitor risers by a substantial margin, it could still be a little cheaper for what is essentially a plastic platform with plastic tube legs and rubber feet. I'd like to see it sell for about $10.
