I've used the Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Waterfall Soother for 2 of my daughters and they both loved it. It seemed to calm them, and help them fall asleep faster and easier than just putting them in their crib alone. It's a good swap for rocking them to sleep. It has features that allow you to change volume, music, lights, etc. Even after using it every night, and sometimes during the day for naptime, the batteries still last about 2 months, which I don't think is too bad. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a baby.
My son has had this since he was four months, he is now eight months, and still loves it. When he is fussy or bored he loves to watch the monkey and frog swinging. He only likes the upbeat music though, not the lullabies-they are soso. Overall it's cute, works good, and battery life is pretty decent. Sometimes i even prop it up outside of the crib so he can play during the day. Doesn't really put him to sleep though.
We received this as a shower gift and it is one of the best gifts ever! My daughter loves it!
My son's crib has both this and the Rainforest mobile in it. Either toy alone is fantastic. This toy offers bright colors, great sounds and a great variety of settings. I enjoy the sounds myself and my son enjoys the sounds, lights and movements. It does catpure his attention and the various settings allow me to do something different each time so that he doesn't get bored or too used to one thing. A bit pricey, but worth it. I feel it is made well too and the battery life seems to be great also.
