light weight splitter for smaller log rounds about 15 inches. i can split all day long with this one. Razor sharp edge needs frequent sharpening easy done with the Fiskars sharpener. Handel practically indestructible. Good to pair this one with a bigger Maul, wedges or a Chopper one ax that i use for the big stuff than split down smaller with the Fishkars Ax.
I read other reviews on internet on a Friday, looked in all local stores until last place I looked(Sears) had it on Saturday. Used all weekend to work on clearing winter wind-fall trees. Axe was sharp out of the very useful plastic package/guard. Although it seemed very light and somewhat small headed, it went through the weekend with the edge still extremely sharp. I was amazed at how well it split the green wood I had cut up. The non-stick coating and wedge shaped head seem to work well. I am concerned by several reports of shattered handles. (Temperature-cold sensitive?) I still...
read full review »This is unreal, I have used a few axes and splitting mauls before, and basically heat my home with wood (wood stove) since moving to our new house a year ago. I used to hate doing wood duty and was saving to buy a hydraullic splitter, but Ive seen soooo many videos about this axe, I decided to get it this morning after the maul nailed me pretty good. Well, Im back in about an hour and a half later, I have almost a cord of wood split in my yard, and I am still in disbelief that I own a tool that works so well. I can't say enough good about it, this is THE axe to buy for splitting firewood....
read full review »As very much an unexperienced wood splitter, even I can use this ax to cut through 10-inch diametered logs with ease. This tool really makes such job a piece of cake. The weight of the ax is properly distributed such that it didn't feel heavy in your hands yet it can drive through logs efficiently and effectively. Awsome ax! Evey penny is well spent for it.
I have a large gas powered splitter and have some rounds too heavy to lift on to it. I recently broke my old 8lb splitting maul and saw the reviews on the Fiskars splitting ax, watched a couple of videos on you-tube and figured I'd try one out.
Well I don't think I'll be needing the gas splitter anymore, this thing is great! I was kind of leery about the sharp knife like edge and having it get stuck in wood. The old school theory was "If it wasn't super sharp it would bounce off and not stick in the wood and avoid breaking the handle". Well this sharp edge and wedge shape seems to split nearly...
