Ok .. our last foodsaver (the 550 model which is probably about 10 years old) finally bit the dust a couple weeks back.  We bought one of the "newest" models that sits upright (for lack of better words), where you have to put the bag in the front slot to seal it.  Well, what a pain.  I really preferred my older model without all the gadgets, bells and whistles so I returned that one and looked around for a not so new model.  We ended up purchasing ours on line *******, but Sams has the same type) and it is a model V2830. We have loved it from the moment we took it from the box and started using it. It works in the similar fashion as our old model), sitting down on the counter and you have to lift the lid to fit the bags in the canal to make or seal the bag. The overflow chamber is easy to remove and simple to clean. You have control of starting the machine and can stop it if you want to, to avoid crushing delicate foods.  We keep ours on the counter and pretty much use it daily. Anytime I buy in bulk I separate and seal portions for us to pull out and use and not have alot of waste.  During spring and summer I've used it to seal berries we have taken hours to pick (freeze first on a cookie sheet) so we'll have fresh blueberries all year long.  Blanch and seal cob corn; as well as those masses of squash and zucchini that are plentiful this time of year.  And if you grow tomatoes, you can blanch and freeze those as well as make tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, etc., freezing that for use months later. Great investment and I could not support FoodSaver any better than passing on what a great product they made.
