What is your favorite holiday decoration you put up every year at your house?  Is there an ornament on your tree that you like the most?  Why?

I have a ceramic tabby cat bell that I hang on the tree every year it was sent over seas from my Oma (thats the german word for grandmother) in Germany so it means alot to me to have it on the tree :)

I have brass metal lathe turning tree icicles.

I "made" the ornaments, myself, when I was a machinist - in the Army.

They're getting old...

Our tree has a lot of ornaments on it from when my husband was a child.  I am ready to start our own traditions, more, with more ornaments the kids pick out, maybe.

Do give and receive a lot of ornaments as gifts?

I could "try" giving some tool ornaments as gifts.

The receivers would CERTAINLY remember who they got the ornament from.

Of course, if you take the ornament out of its dated box, it looses some of its collectibility...

We have ornaments from the Children and Grandchildren that are on the tree every year.  Some ornaments have pictures of the Grandchildren on them that were taken the year the ornament was given to us.  Time sure does fly.  We have many other ornaments..most with a unique story.

My wife sets up a large display of Department 56 village.  We have items from both the New England and Dickens series.  She alternates which village she sets up each year.

Pine Cones - Nature's ornaments!

I think my parents had a pine cone wreath.

The cone chards were tipped with gold spray paint for a decorative holiday look.

Same here! I have lots of ornaments I made when I was in Girl Scouts and some that my mom made from the mobile that hung over my bed when I was a baby.  It's that old stuff that I really love to take out of the boxes and look at.

My favorite is having a brick/stone fireplace and hanging the stockings over it.  Other decorations add to the whole but those are my favorite and represent the season and Christmas for me.
