I have a garage door opener, 3 years old, it all of a sudden started reversing when it reached the bottom.  It started doing it every once in a while but now does it frequently.  Adjusting the settings as described in the manual does not work.  I set the up and down travel limits as instructed and ran the force adjustment procedure as indicated.  What is happpening is the door will close all the way down and then it reverses.  There is nothing blocking the sensors and all adjustments are done as indicated by the instructions.  When the door reverses and reaches the top the lights blink 10 times.  I referred to the troubleshooting area and there is no diagnostic explanation for 10 blinks of the light.  I have to assume that this must be an indicator for a serviceman.  Is there a sensor or board that deals with this area that might be causing this? I adjusted the travel limits using the black and orange buttons.  There is no bowing of the bar or belt.  When I go to adjust the force adjustment it doesn't seem to work.  It just reverses

Sounds like it is time for a call to 1-800-4MY-HOME.

Thanks for the reply Adam, phoning the Sears repair number would be the easiest thing to do but also the most expensive thing to do.  I have been a long time Sears customer and my experience has been you are often better off to just go out and buy a new item than call the serviceman.  My luck with Sears products over the years has not been great and I have often called to get stuff repaired, whether it be new items or ones even under a maintenance agreement without any great satisfaction.  I know that won't make a lot of the responders to this forum happy but it is what it is.  I worked in the communication industry for over 30 years and am more than capable of changing out a circuit board.  Having said that, I do not have access to service manuals for garage door openers.  I have had items fixed before and by the time you pay for a service call (or 2) and replace the parts, you might as well have bought a new item and at least then you would have the warranty to fall back on.  I know the service people that monitor these forums won't be happy to read this, but it is true.  I have read some of the other forums and seen where someone has posted a question about an item and then is ganged up on by current and former Sears personnel.  See tkasdf - September 14, 2009. Hopefully that is not what this forum is all about.

Although I thank you Adam for your reply, it is of little value to me.  I needed someone to tell me what the diagnostic code (10 blinks) meant. It is obviously a indicator of a specific problem.  I have no intention of calling out a Sears technician to fix this problem.  I can understand to a point the protectionism of Sears employees for the products they sell.  Before I retired I probably did some of that myself with my company.  But it boils down to reliability and workmanship of products and how good your Customer Service is.  Are we getting the value out of items we purchase?  The space here limits my comments, but trust me when I say I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of Sears products over the years and have had the majority of them fail long before they should have.  We have a Honda Lawnmower getting fixed ( 5th time) right now that did not work right out of the box.  It is not quite a year and a half old (yes it is under warranty).  They can't seem to fix it, but they won't give us a different one.  They have even admitted that they have had it in the shop longer than we have had it at home.  No I do not have faith in Sears at all.  If I can't get an answer to my post I will have to likely buy a new garage door opener.  Be assured it won't be a Craftsman.  Sorry to rant on, but is this forum really about people helping people or about how many points I can get?   Some people's names show up a lot in these forums.  Is the content of their posts beneficial or just keeping their numbers up?  Adam??

Hi RetiredBob-Welcome to MySears!  Is your lawnmower you discuss above a Sears purchase?  If so, would you give SearsCares, the customer service escalation team, a chance to help with that issue?

This site serves MANY purposes-hearing from loyal customers their thoughts on Sears and their products, offering advice in a community setting to members, and utilizing the SearsCares team to assist customer who have had problems with Sears, among other reasons. Keeping numbers up for members is not a goal of the site.  We do have quite a few enthusiastic members, though!

Sears has a technical support line specific for garage door openers 1-800-528-5236 5am-5pm PST daily. There will be a menu when you call after some brief info about having your model #, and performing a safety reversal press 3 to speak with a technical specialist regarding your issue.
