LockedIce maker storage bin stuck

posted on January 16, 2010 at 10:21AM Inappropriate?

I have a new LG refrigerator side by side LSC27931ST. The ice maker and ice storage bin locates in the front door.  The ice maker is still making ice but somehow ice in the storage bin was melted and got stuck and I could not get any ice from the dispenser.  I tried to stop ice maker to make ice, empty the ice in storage bin, and opened the bottom door of storage bin so ice was stuck at the bottom melted and clear up but no luck.  I also tried to lift and pull to remove the ice storage bin following the instruction at the door but melted ice inside prevented me to do so.  Do you know what else should I do to clear the melted ice inside the storage bin so I can use the dispenser again and how to prevent it will repeat the same problem in the future?

Thanks a lot.

How long've you had it? If it's less than a year you could potentially be able to get it serviced and have it take care of the problem ^_^.

Or if you have the Protection Agreement for it they'll service it as well.

The number for that is 1-800-469-4663.

HOWEVER

If you've had it for longer than a year and don't have the protection, you could try ordering just the icemaker for it alone, or you could still call service out for a charge.

NOW onto stuff that has nothing to do with repair (won't nag you with that anymore). You could use a hot washcloth to unmelt the ice inside it. You could even use a hair dryer (as long as you're not aiming it to any exposed components. MAKE SURE YOUR FRIDGE IS OFF. The Hair dryer would make it run alot harder. Causing your appliance to use a hefty bit more electricity.

Thanks Justin.  I bought this refrigerator about 4 months ago.  I don' t have the protection service because I cancelled it since I heard rumor about three months ago that Sears would be bankruped.  I emailed the LG to ask for help but no answers yet.  I am going to call LG customer service next week hoping they can help me.  I thought that someone might have other tricks that show me how to open the storage bin.  Again thanks for your advice and I think I can use hot washcloth to melt the ice inside.

The root cause is usually a stray ice cube that did not fall all the way out before the trap door shut, causing the trap door to be propped open until the stray cube melts, allowing warm moist air into the icemaker area.

If you bought the refrigerator from Sears less than a year ago, Sears should provide service to you at no charge with or without a service agreement. doesn't the LG fridge com with a 1 year mfr's warranty? Sears should service it at no charge during that period. Did you call Sears service to ask them yet?
