Broke after 6 monts. After 2 years the keypad started to be unreliable, expecially if "warmed up" by cooking something on the range. After 3 years the keypad stopped working.

We don't use the microwave much, just bought this because it went with the Cafe stove. The appliance guy did tell me when he was here fixing our fridge to not leave stuff inside once it's beeped while cooling. He said to take stuff out or eventually it'll burn out something inside. Seems a bit odd to me to have to take something out of the microwave to cool off instead of being able to leave it inside. We use it mostly for cooking popcorn or oatmeal when we're in a rush, and for timing things. Haven't experienced the keypads not working when the oven is on yet like other reviewers but we don't really use it when the oven is on.

This machine has all the bells and whistles and worked great for a year. Then everything went wrong. The keypad does not work when it gets hot, but this is supposed to be an over the range microwave! We have had the keypad replaced 3 times in 2 years - each for $200 a pop. In the last two weeks, the repairman has been to our house 3 times, most recently replacing all the guts of the machine including the magnetron (this is supposed to last more than 5 or even 10 years), and it broke again less than 24 hours later! GE refuses to stand behind their products as well. When I demanded a replacement unit, all they offered was to give me a discount on a new (presumably equally defective) one.

My parents own a GE microwave that they puchased in 1984 that works perfectly to this day. How come now, they can't build a unit that lasts even 3 years? Unbelievable!

I have had the same problem commonly reported by others, in particular that the control panel is very sensitive to heat or moisture. If the unit is installed above a stove, the control panel will not work, either due to the heat or the steam. If you wait a few hours, it will usually work again, but sometimes we have to wait over a day. The cost to fix this design flaw is nearly the same as the original cost of the microwave.

We have had this microwave for one year. It has hardly been used. The touch pad is not working. This is a waste of money. I would never buy another GE appliance again. I bought the matching stove and that also is garbage. Stay away from GE applicances especially the GE Cafe series.

We've had two major failures within 18 months arfter installation. The control panel fails due to the heat from the range below. The microwave cannot tolerate the heat. After the second repair the control panel display was replaced with a green display instead of the original blue that matched all our other GE kitchen appliances. Also, the small lamps for under the microwave lighting fail every 2 to 6 months and cost $5 each to replace (two required).

When complaining to GE about the high service cost (1/3 rd the purchase price) and the frequent failures we were told basically 'tough luck, it's your problem'. However, they did send me some free lamps (whoopie).

This microwave does look sleek and the touch control panel is very convenient. If it would only work this would be a good product.

Absolutely wonderful microwave outside of the failure within first two weeks of use (stopped heating - parts/labor covered 100% by warranty.) Extremely easy to use with touch panel, guided menu system. Warms left overs and does things like popcorn perfectly and does a wonderful job overall. Do be careful with items with a low profile and using it's auto-sensing cook features as it may burn things (I'd guess since it can't distinguish between the cooking surface and food.)

The touch sensor control pad gets hot when cooking under it or even just using the oven in the range. The Microwave is installed about 2" higher than the installation instructions specified. After about 10 months the touch pad started to stop working whenever it got warm. This problem is getting more sever.

Do not tough the handle when cooking under this microwave unless you are using an oven mitt, very hot very fast.

Very good looking product. We have the Cafe range and dish washer also but I would never buy this microwave again.

This is a great looking microwave. My kids love that the top opens when the vent is on. The kids love showing their friends how cool it is. I had actually decided on a Whirlpool with a convection oven and then changed my mind when I decided to get a new range also. The cafe range has a convection oven plus I wanted them to match. I got the dishwasher in the cafe line also and I have been using them for about 3 weeks. I am very happy with all three of them. They look expensive and give the look of a more professional kitchen....

Wow, this Cafe microwave is great! I almost went with a less expensive choice. However, I decided it would look better since I put it over the GE CAFE range. Well it does match , but that's not the reason I love it. It performs soooo well. It is very easy to use. This is NOT your regular everyday microwave! It is special! It is definitely worth the higher cost over another brand/style. It is awesome!...
