Because there's just no way to really lock a boat securely and it's so easily stolen. This does exactly what it's intended to. It also doubles as a great mean of communication. Friends and family can follow us when we go on coastal runs. It's great to be able to share our positions with friends to catch up when they're out on the water as well ...best safety device we've found, and also doubles up as a really cool communication tool! Love it!
