Hi - Old post, but I have this same model of Garmin and never experienced what you describe. The factory reset should have reset it, but it sounds like you need to hook it up to your PC, set up a mygarmin account at the Garmin website, d/l the Garmin add-on and let the site find your device. From there, d/l and install all the software updates and see if the unit still gives you problems.
