LockedGarmin Nuvi 765t and885t

Has anyone else had total mileage problems with the above units?

My Street pilot died and the replacement i got was the Nuvi 765t,what a piece of junk! The total mileage(not the birds eye view) was off, tryed to register it,it wouldnt register, tryed to update it ,it wouldnt update, spent hours on the hold(on a cell phone)with the Garmin reps, they couldnt help,so i returned it and got a Nuvi 885t...AGAIN the total trip mileage is off, called Garmin they said:I dont know what to tell you"  so i returned it to Best Buy,and asked to speak to a supervison. They took a new 765t out of the box put it next to my 885t punched in an address with a known total mileage, and not only was the mileage off on both units, both units side by side had different total miles, and different arrival times.DONT buy a Nuvi until Garmin fixes this, its been the most frustrated ive ever been in my life......30-35 minute wait times to talk to a garmin rep,and if you need to talk to the software department its ANOTHER 30-35 MINUTE WAIT!!!!!!!

One thing I always tell customer is that the mapping is all done by third parties, so when it comes to which GPS you should always know who does the mapping for that unit. Magellan and Garmin are both done by Navteq which TomTom is done by Tele Atlas.

Tele Atlas is the superior mapping company not only do they do constant updates but the overall quality directions are just better.

Its like Google Maps vs Map Quest. I never use Mapquest anymore.

Good grief man !   Get a life !  If that's "the most frustrated you have ever been in your life" then you have taken this far too seriously.  Either that  or you just aren't living life as the rest of us know it.   Frustration is a part of life, but dealing with a Garmin GPS ranks way down on my list of priorities ...  Hopefully it will always be that way.  Our teenage Granddaughter ranks near the top ... My wife is in there, our home is way up there, and the car and the dog, and the rest of the family etc. etc..   That Garmin isn't even close.  And believe me when I say that it never will be.  Besides ...what if the mileage calculation is off a little bit ... Is it the end of life as we know it ?   Frankly, I don't think so.

You are wonderfully entertaining and r-e-a-l!  Thank you for setting this poor soul straight on the economics of "life"....ie the ups and downs....the real "what matters most" in our bottom lines....and not what's attached to the top of our legs..... :(.....he will feel much better if he depends on Mapquest.....now that's a real trip....I feel cheated if I don't have a little umbrella in my diet DP while driving and avoiding the traffic whizzing around me @ 80+ mph....as I read the jibberish directions that take you off the highway...and back on the highway...and off the highway....etc......(what I won't do to make pretend I'm on vacation in Aruba...and could care less where I'm going with my Pina Colada in hand!).  Cheers to you!  He clearly doesn't have children with children....just wait....maybe he will be a grandfather one day....when he grows the )(&&(*% up!  :)

I am here to find a GPS for a Christmas Present, thanks a2zrock for bringing this to my attention and GenJones32, you were very  helpful. THAT IS WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR.

GenJones32 is right. I purchased a Navigon GPS unit a few years ago before they pulled out of the US market and my estimated mileage and time of arrival is aways off. Even after 2 sofware updates and numerous map updates it is still off. It happens to most gps units out there, no matter how much you pay for them. Even my TomTom Go 300 was always off on mileage.

JennyLyn, thanks for stating that. What those two guys said was very inappropriate and disrespectful. It's a message board on a retailer's website for a reason. It's to voice your opinions or true stories about the customer service or products purchased from their company. Those opinions may be those of frustration or praise. Sorry a2zrock, that you had to deal with the imperfect issues of electronics and to top it off those idiots responding biligerently to your statement.

Thanks to everyone for the proper responses to the legitimate view of a buyer on an item.  He is only trying to advice us on the item which some of us really appreciate.

To my two friends above, because you are grandparent does not mean that you know everything about life.

Vent the anger of your lives to appropriate medium.  This is not the place to attack others.
