My initial experience when I brought home the first bench was not good.  As you know, cast aluminum is very brittle.  The packaging on this item is inferior and the seat panel had a large crack.

I returned it and received another, which also had inferior packaging, but the bench was in good condition.  The instructions for assembly were excellent and all the parts were there.  It took me (a little old lady) about 45 minutes to assemble.  A loveseat cushion I bought fits it perfectly.  The bench is a very nice addition to my garden oasis.

I was expecting the bench to be made of cast iron, but only the arms and legs are cast iron -- the seat and back are aluminum. I guess the bench would have been much heavier if all cast iron. The only problem with this is that the aluminum is fairly thin and the seat would probably break if stood upon. The color is black over copper, with some of the copper color showing through. Though it's a fairly interesting "antiqued" paint job, I think I'm going to paint it green. Otherwise a nice, sturdy bench.
