Garmin Nuvi 205 3.5" Touchscreen GPS... Reviews

I can not believe how easy this is to operate, I have never owned a GPS & after I picked it up at Sears, I plugged it in & it came on & I got it set to go home in minutes without even looking at the directions! I did read those when I got home. I like the spped limits and ETA that it shows & I also noticed little basically personal driveway roads even showing up on the screen with the name of the road! I am very happy with this purchase & this great price compared to other ones I have seen. Two thumbs up from me, it will be a great assist on our 25th anniversary trip coming up next month   :O)...

I bought this product to replace a similarly featured Magellan unit.  The Garmin is much easier to use, and more importantly, it more consistently delivers accurate directions.  I will definitely look at Garmin for my other vehicles.

GARMIN nuvi 205

This GPS is nowhere near the top of the line for features or for price. What's nice is that it does so much, and so well, without breaking the wallet! I have used it both in my car and on my motorcycle, and despite any vibration it performs exceptionally well... very rugged. GARMIN also offers several free downloads to augment the existing features IE additional voice downloads, different vehicle icons, AND POIs. I have already made a recommendation to a friend, as well as buying an additional 205 as a gift.

Anyone considering the Nuvi 205 needs to understand that this model has two deficiencies that many people might want:

  • no "text-to-speech"
  • no multi-point routing.

If you don't want/need these features, this model can be a good value.

Great Product

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 205 on line Thanksgiving weekend. I was excited about getting it at a great sale price. It is easy to use. I am enjoying playing with it and using it to guide me around. I can't believe I have not purchased one before now. Great piece of equipment to have, even it you are not traveling from state to state.

Great product!

While this review may be a bit premature since I bought the unit yesterday, the fact of the matter is that this is a great product. If you've read that the 205 is "user-friendly" elsewhere, believe it. You can literally take it out of the box and begin using it on the road with the plug-in it comes with for the car (12V). The touchscreen is great, and the volume is plenty loud on its standard settings, which can be changed. Points of interest are easy to find and are all represented with bright pictures. This machine does not waste your time on the road. It will reroute for you as well, so you'll... read full review »

It's a Garmin - bought this as a gift for my son who was a new driver.  He gained confidence when he had his Garmin with him.  Really a must for a "new" driver - lets them concentrate on the road because they know when to turn, where to turn and how to get home again.  Excellent job....Garmin

Love IT!!

My Parent's got this for me at the family and friends event for Christmas. It was on sale for about $125. I love it. I travel a lot for work and go to people's homes and it is wonderful. It takes me right to their doors. It was very easy to set up, It sticks to my windshield well. I've been using it for about a week and have no compliants at all. I also like how it displays the numbers to shopping, etc. It is very easy to read and the battery life seems to be good. I don't know what the more expensive GPS units have that make them more expensive but I would recommend this one. It's perfect for... read full review »

Excellent buy

The Garmin Nuvi 205 has been great.  Its quick to find a satelite and calculate your route.  Once you program in your home address, you can always just touch the "Take Me Home" button for fast instructions.  This GPS is very easy to use with all of the on screen prompts.  It's small enough to be placed on the windsheild without really obstructing anything, yet large enough to see the screen.  The voice commands are also nice.  The battery life is awesome - several hours - if you dont want to use the accessory power.  You can even customize the voice (American, British, etc) and change your...

Really cool !

I bought my Garmin 205 only a week ago, and have had a blast playing with it. We got it "lost" on purpose and it found a new way back ..amazing. I told a neighbor about my neuvi and now they have mine for a day... they too enjoyed using it, and in fact are buying one now. I had to call customer service cause I couldnt get our exact street address and hoped she could help me... she helped and we found out that the builder of our community actually put our street in the wrong location... Im not kidding. So we have to leave from a street that isnt really ours, but it still works just fine. That problem... read full review »

The price of the Nuvi 205 is what attracted me to it. It has a bright easy to read touch screen. The options of views, the ability to zoom in and out, and the turn by turn directions make driving on road easy and fun. When going off road though the mapping software is not really set up for creating new routes. I bought this unit specifically for this function so I am a little disappointed, but I plan on loading better topo maps in order to get the function I want. In pedestrian mode, it is a bit better, but the battery was low after 4 hours of hiking.
