GPS is nice and simple to use!

Pros: simple touch screen , nice widescreen, fast processor so it connects to satellites very quickly, and the text-to-speech feature is great.

Cons: power cord seems kind of big and bulky for such a small device.

The need to take care of a business matter in the un-familiar San Francisco area, prompted us to consider the purchase of a GPS unit. I've never owned one and was not sure what questions I needed to ask when selecting one. At the store I was greeted by a helpful associate who began to explain what GPS was all about. There was a display of several working GPS units that helped me with decsion making.
I was drawn to the Garmin series of GPS because the mapping was displayed in a format that seemed logical and was very easy to read since my eyes are not what they used to be. The display screen colors and contrast are well defined and I'm happy with the gentle ladies voice contained within my new Garmin GPS.

I purchased an accessory dash mount that keeps the Garmin 255 GPS positioned where I place it. I also purchased an accessory 110 volt house charger because I did not want to be sitting in my car every time I need to program my GPS. I can now sit comfortably in my air conditioned home while...

I have used the Tom Tom 130, the Garmin Nuvi 205, and the Magellan Roadmate 1200 along with this Garmin Nuvi 255w. Here is what I can best tell you why I will buy Garmin's again and again. First each one I used has been very accurate so far, so there is no major difference there. I like Garmin for the little things:

Points of interest - On both Garmin models I have used they are way faster at finding POI than the Tom Tom, and a little faster than on the Magellan. I also like the auto complete better on the Garmin as it gives more than one suggestion and you can click the one you want.

Screen - Magellan and Garmin both felt very nice. The Tom Tom was very hard to read in daylight for me, even with the screen set to daylight colors. The Tom Tom here felt like the resolution was not quite high enough. On the Garmin it is very bright and clear.

Sound - The Tom Tom model I used did not say street names as the Garmin and Magellan do, but there was more than that. Both the Magellan and the...

I love this GPS. I get lost... a lot, I mean, a lot. It has never given me directions to somewhere totally off base and the re-route is amazing (because sometime if you're not used to downtown driving, it can be hectic). People tell me their GPS horror stories with other brands, and I reccommend the Garmin 255W for them. I've had it for a year now, with numerous trips by myself and I swear by it.

I got this for Christmas. It's my first navigation system so I don't have anything to compare it to but it works great for me. Make sure you take advantage of the free map update during the 1st 60 days so you have the latest map. Otherwise map updates cost $$$.

It has Auto, Bike and Pedestrian modes. Works great in the car and I've even used it walking with it in my pocket and it still picks up the sattellite signal. Measures distance, ave speed and tracks where you've been.

I got this for my husband, since is his magellen broke, Very clear, very thin..very wideIt is far better than the mastero we had in the past, the turn by turn directions are clear the snapshots from the garmin is interesting you need a card do not know how much they cost the updates are free as always, which is nice since the magellen you must pay for, the garmin also has a great 3D view and you can choose from many things shoes,eagle,person.car..tank etc...plus you can connect to the computer and do updates maps etc....The maps seem very up to date to me it doesn't take me in to a big circle like the mastero did, The Signals to the satalites are amazing, , ...

The only downfall, Seems when to be when you are spelling things and try to delete it goes go other letters but it can be corrected by going to the side of the eraser and then continue then the quick spell also helps,with this problem,.....it has many features,.....to many to choose from you can save your destinations and it...

I was looking for a Garmin GPS for my car and have looked at the Nuvi 255w for quite a while.... It is quite accurate on telling where I am and gives great directions. Not extremely customizable, but you can change the voices that are installed and can download car icons. Very user friendly interface and easy to use for even those who aren't tech savvy!

We bought this wounderful GPS and the minute we pluged it in to the car I fell in love. I have used in dash GPS systems with my job and this is a good alteritive to having an in dash system, the information is accurate and the options are great. The GPS does a great job of getting me to my destination and giving very helpful points of intrest when I ask. having the ability to transfer it between my veichle and the bike is great and I look forward to using the pedestrian mode later this year to discover new citeis I visit. The touch screen is easy to use and the voice chosses are good.

I am looking forward to the travel that are to come this year and doing them with my new GPS.

I bought this Garmin last Christmas and I love it. I use it whenever I got into the city. I have no problem finding my destination, even if I make a wrong turn. The device screen is big enough so that I can see it without a problem. I bought the dash mount for it and love that too, it's easy to snap the unit into it and when I leave the car I put the dash mount under the seat, no tell tale suction marks on the window. I also bought the "glove" to store the Garmin in, which is handy and I just slip it into my purse and away I go....... If you are a not a gadget freak and perhaps a bit technically challenged this is the Garmin for you.........I love it.

Easy to use, good display, several different mounting options.Our only problem is that after linking with the Garmin web site to update data and then receiving the response that the data base is up to date, unfortunately it is not. There are several new highway access points which have existed for over three years but are not recorded in the data base. House and business location is excellent en route data could be better. Overall a good product for the money....

I was apprehensive about buying a GPS because I was concerned that it would be complicated to operate and utlimately would not be very useful. This GSP is VERY easy to use, and is an excellent travel companion. It provides step-by-step audial and visual directions, and even if you make a wrong turn, it automatically reconfigures and provides new directions. Its like having a person sitting in the vehicle with you giving you directions.I NEVER leave home without it!...

I love the widescreen on this Garmin. The quality is #1. Accurate directions - millions of POI - easy to use menu and navigation. I purchased 2 of these units for Christmas presents and they love them. I feel better knowing the ones I love will get to their destination safely and won't worry when they travel to places they haven't been before - it's a must have if you aren't good with directions. You don't have to travel out of state to get the benefits from this Garmin - how many times are you looking for a store, restaurant, school for a game your son or daughter is playing at - the Garmin 255W with get you there - and get you back home again.

I purchased this garmin after our first visit to IU medical facility in Indy-with just a map-we got lost and knowing we would have to go back and be staying in the area while my husband had surgery-decided I needed one. It was a such a relief to be able to punch in either hospital address or hotel address and know that when I was tired and stressed-I had a "voice" guiding me to where ever I needed to go. It took me to post offices, restraunts, gas stations, and back home without ever having to worry should I go left or right-I just followed the voice I heard. I have told several people they need one. Best techie thing I've bought in a long time....

The Garmin 255w is a great gps but I would be hapier if it had bluetooth. It hasa nice large screen ande is very helpful at finding stores and other places you may be interested in finding. Also works great to find the phone numbers of locations...

Got my 255W today and absolutely love it. Nice big screen, very accurate directions, estimates time of arrival, fun accents to choose from, mounts easily. They've made it idiot-proof to get started -- takes about 1 minute with the ultrasimple onscreen directions. Which way to Vegas? I'm going exploring....
