Genie 8 ft. DC Extension Kit, Screw Drive —
I needed this extension kit for my 8 foot high door. Once added, the overall rail is a bit flimsy causing the open limit to kick sometimes due to the rail jerk of the high speed open of this particular garage door opener, so added a 2x4 brace from the ceiling joist 1/2 way back the rail. Now it is very solid & the limit no longer kicks out.
You may find as I did the extension kit does not dovetail together very well with the original opener rail. I had to open up the slightly mismatched holes a bit with my drill. Then every time I tried to tighten the bolts, te rails would mis-align. I finally figured out the dime sized protrusions that are designed to help position the rails together were not aligning very well, so I took them to the grinder & ground them down level with the rail. I was then able to tighten the bolts without the rails misaligning. It is necessary to have good alignment for the trolley to slide from one piece of rail to another without binding. Armed with this information, this rail kit is usable, but should not have needed to be drilled and ground just to fit. They need tighter tolerances on this "add on" accessory.
If you need to extend your rail for an 8 foot door, you don't have much other choice.
