LockedFinished your Holiday Shopping yet?

Just wondering if you have finished your holiday shopping yet? I'm down to two gifts for the season, Of course, I'm the guy that does this all year round so I always have a gift in the closet, but his year, amazingly, I'm almost done and will be able to enjoy the holiday without the stress of the 'holiday shopping.'  Anyone else close? Any suggestions on a good 'guy gift?"

Uh, no :+(  I usually get most of my done by Halloween but this year I have been a slacker.  I just purchased my Daddy a book thanks to a review by GeorgeChabot.  I'm starting to get some ideas for family and friends.  Wish I could help you on the "guy gift" thing but that's always a tough one for me too.  I generally buy CDs, movies, books, office decor, etc.  for my brothers and Daddy.   I need good gift ideas under $25 that are practical or fun but not cheap-looking or poor quality.  Any ideas?  Shopping for children and teenagers.

I've been giving the teenage nieces and nephews gift cards. There are so many of them I only go for the $20 card. They like the Visa cards so they can use them anywhere and the boys mainly purchase music or clothes with them. The many neices almost always get themselves earings. Black, sparkly and always dangly. My youngest niece likes rings, the gaudier the better.  Uncle Troy always sends books to the kids under 9. (It gives my Brothers and sister a chance to read to them, they say they really like that. The kids do too.)

Thanks for the Visa gift card idea.  I am so "uninformed."  I thought this was a card that could only be used at the store it was purchased at so I was totally confused wondering: "Why would Wal-Mar sell a Visa gift card if they already have gift cards?"  So, I purchase the card and then the recipient has a gift card to use anywhere that accepts the Visa cards?  Cool!  I think you just solved my gift giving problem for a whole slew of people!  THANKS!  I am also going to order some Fancy Nancy books for a 5-year-old after reading Jolie's review.  I'm just too excited about this Visa gift card thing--yippee!!

if you use a visa gift card make sure you know the amount left on it. it works like one of those re-loadable credit card things so you cant just use whats left on it and pay the rest with something else. i know on a sears register it will come up as declined for being over the limit im guessing its the same way at other stores never used them my self but saw it happen enough while cashiering at sears.

i know at sears if what you were buying was more then what was left on the card a separate purchase was done buying a gift card  for that amount, dont know if other stores do it that way but i thought id give everyone that little food for thought on it

We sell gift cards at Kmart that can we used anywhere (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and we will be selling reloadable prepaid cards in Kmart--just like Walmart does--beginning this November!

Thanks for the heads up.  I am easily embarrassed and I am used to "cashing out" a gift card and then paying the difference on my purchase.  I would be embarrassed if I were trying to buy $20 worth of merchandise, had $15 on the card and expected to pay cash for the other $5 and the cashier declined my card.  I wonder how many people know this information??

not enough im afraid few cashiers even know its not something on the training so if they are new they wont know till it happens. i only cahsiered for about two weeks and saw it happen a dozen or so times with the mall gift cards wich  work the same way. most customers were understanding but there were a few there and there that complained and it would hold up the line too when it happend

Well, a big concern would be for the person who wasn't expecting to pay that much out of pocket.  You get a visa card declined and then someone is trying to come up with what they thought would have been covered on the card but wasn't.  I'm still going to give it a try--you never know until you try, huh?  Take a leap of faith--shoot for the moon and if you miss you'll fall among the stars ;+)

its really not that big of an issue as long as you know whats left on the card all you have to do is buy a sears gift card for that amount paying for it with the visa one then just use the new sears gift card and which ever other method of payment you were going to before. its a hassle but beats having the visa gift card declined

I am.  A few years ago I started buying Christmas presents at the same time I purchase birthday gifts for each family member or friend.  I keep them in a large bin.  My last birthday is December 16th and I just finished buying for my niece.  So excited!  I look for sales throughout the year and grab things on after Christmas specials for the following year as well.

Wow, I'm impressed! I have to do some catching up. Are there any gifts you're really looking forward to giving? Do you expect any special reactions?

How about pulling together "Themed Gift Bags/Baskets" centered around the recipient interests?  For example if you're shopping for a guy and he's into Redskins or Dallas Cowboys purchase him gift items related to his favorite team that way you could keep costs down and give him something he really loves.  If you're shopping for someone who is an avid book reader why not purchase them a throw, a booklight or even a bookmark and a couple boxes of hot chocolate with a mug.  Let me know how it works out for you because most of these items are reasonably priced.

I do just that!  I would rather give someone a package with several small items than one gift.  I usually do the themes with my 2 best friends and with my younger sister.  I buy the gifts for my niece and 2 nephews to give to their mother (my sister) every Christmas.  I give her a princess theme package from Katie aka Little Princess, music package from Jonathan aka Drummer Boy, and household items, p.j.s, etc. from Marcus aka Care Boy.  I put their aliases on the gift tags and it's a special treat for my sister to get the extra gifts.  The problem is what do you buy someone who has so much money they can go get what they want, when they want it?
