Sears sells both sizes of Gator Grip sockets, in the stores.

I've hear some good and some bad about the gator grip.  The bad is those little pins have been know to break.  I personally use Craftsman bolt out for bolts with heads and screw out with bolts that don't.   But that is just one opinion.

Sears sells a variety of extractor tools.

One of the Bolt-Out sets would probably do a better job on removing a stripped nut or bolt head.

However, unlike the Alligator Grip socket tool, a Bolt-Out Extractor is a destructive extraction tool that will often require the replacement of the fastener it extracts.

I have had a lot of luck with vise grips. Also a chisle. I make a groove in the nut, then keep tapping it till it breaks free.  Ill have to buy some of those special sockets and try them out.

I used to do a lot of "extracting" tasks in the Army and would have paid big time money to own what is available now, back then.

My first job, as an Army Direct Support Machinist was removing a tank recovery vehicles broken lug bolt!

I got an Easy-Out that's about as big as my Big Toe for those jobs...

That 3/4 inch electric drill, about broke both my arms when the twist drill bit "snagged" on the pilot hole.

Now, I know why they have that piece of threaded pipe as a side handle - to bury into the ground, pavement or on the cement floor BEFORE turning the beast ON!

i love the craftsman bolt-out set! and if you tap it on with a hammer, so the teeth can dig in, it works even better.

I've got the 5 piece Bolt-Out set, with the 5 piece add-on Bolt Outs, the thin-head Bolt Outs, and a Screw-Out set.

The "new" Bolt Out sets include provisions for a 3/8 inch drive extension bar.

Dang!

That there is a good idea!

so adam, would you use a ratchet or a break loose bar with the bolt out set?

Oh, man!

Nailed that one right on.

A Break-Loose-Bar of course.

Followed up with any of my pretty precious ratchets...

just weld a nut onto the stripped bolt. then use a socket to remove.

That method works great when you've got access to some form of welder and the area you're working in has a combination on non-flamability and no plastic parts that could be damaged by the heat of a welding operation.

Army - certainly.

DIY - mmm, not so much.
